Getting the Chemistry just right in a lava lamp is surprisingly tricky. The fluid and the wax have to be such a carful balance to get the proper circulation.

I LOVE the first one. Having something that's a similar design, where you can easily change out the bulbs, that ISNT so much concrete (not shipping friendly), would be so awesome.

The fluid in older lava lamps is perchlorate, which might kill you before it gives you cancer! That never stopped me from tinkering with it. I once sorted out how to make a lava lamp where the bubbling material changed color as it swam around. Unfortunately, the effect was based on unstable chemistry, so it lasted for only about ten minutes. But those were GLORIOUS minutes indeed…

I LOVE this. My friend and I used to draw lava lamps in 3rd grade, but he’d always be super creative and redesign them. Some of his coolest were shaped like letters of the alphabet. I always thought it would be magical to see some like that
