A long, long-time favorite classic that kids and adults love! You must give this a try this Holiday Season!

RECIPE:
1 Pre-baked 9 inch Deep Dish Pie Crust
2 cups of Whole Milk
1-1/2 cups of Granulated Sugar
1/3 cup of All Purpose Flour
1/3 cup of Cocoa Powder
Pinch of Salt
3 Egg Yolks
1 Tbsp of Vanilla Extract
2 Tbsp of Unsalted Butter
2 Cups of Whipped Cream or Cool Whip for topping

I’ve started making chocolate pudding pie with vanilla cook and serve(big box) and a bag of chocolate chips(anything but milk). 1 cup less milk than the box calls for. Put the chocolate chips in once the pudding has boiled and cooled a little bit.

I'm sorry for those of you whose custard didn't thicken. I just followed the recipe word for word except I didn't do this over medium low heat. I started with medium low but nothing was happening so I increased the heat to medium high and was diligent about stirring. It didn't take 8 minutes as indicated. Rather it took closer to 20 - 25. This does require patience. Believe me, it's worth the wait. If tasting the spatula is an indication of what the pie will taste like. HOT DAMN! I'll be pounding the table after the first bite! Lol. Definitely increase the heat. PS I cooked to custard with gas.

My sister makes this pie and uses those egg whites to make meringue for the top. It's always a favorite at the holidays.

Thank you for posting this! This is my Grandmother's recipe and it's not easily found in cookbooks. Like you said, the church cookbooks or electric membership cookbooks is the only place you MIGHT find recipes like this one!
