In 1998 the LGBTQ/Gay Community suffered its most high profile hate crime, or so we have been led to believe. The victim was Matthew Shepard and the perpetrators were Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson. The entire country rallied around the story of this young gay man that looked like the boy next door. But a few years ago a book came out by an author named Stephen Jimenez (who is also gay) that calls everything we were told into question. From the prosecutor to the police to some of the citizens of Laramie, Wyoming, that actually knew Matthew and the two that were convicted of the crime, people are suggesting it was something other than what we have been told. This video takes a look at what is being alleged and I'll give my opinion on why I think that this would be handled the way it's been handled if this book "The Book of Matt" is actually a correct telling of events. Either way it goes, the story of Matthew Shepard is a part of LGBTQ history and shaped what it was to be young and gay at that time.

when you ask "are the activists misleading us?" the answer is yes

I’ve known about this lie for many years and it pissed me off when I found out. No one deserves to be murdered the way he was but also we didn’t need to be told lie about why he was murdered.

His parents pushed the victim narrative because it was less embarrassing and more sympathetic than acknowledging that he was a drug dealer and meth head and likely trading drug for sex (sex worker, ahem). Nobody deserves to be murdered but they were clearly not actively parenting and he was clearly a criminal and addict which is a personal choice that puts you at extremely high risk for bad things happening.

As a true crime fan when I first heard the Mathew Shepard story something about it rubbed me the wrong way (cough cough Carlee Russell) and so I went and did some digging many years ago and it didn't take a lot of digging to find records and witness statements saying that all the boys were regular patrons of that bar and area and it wasn't exactly a well kept secret that Matt was someone to go to to score, but the reason I questioned the narrative was that statistically speaking, crimes like that are done by someone that knows the victim. It's very rare that someone is willing to get close enough to beat you like that without emotion being a factor.

There are parallels here with George Floyd. The "powers that be" want us divided. They build up a case of a saint because they can sell it. But humans are rarely saints. We need to get beyond this crap. You go Thai! Tell the hard stories.

It’s always a show of intelligence when someone hears something they disagree with and instead of getting emotional, they do research to find the truth. Also, that is how I red pilled myself by accident. It’s not always the most comfortable thing to do but it’s necessary for growth.

Im from Wyoming and one of my high school teachers was a witness at the bar beforehand. She, and everyone else there saw it as a drug deal gone bad, not a hate crime.

I'm glad you are bringing this to the light. His death was horrible and no one deserves what happened to him. But, using a death to create false narratives is pretty damn evil. Putting people in fear for 20+ years

I'm glad you addressed this story. Many of the viral incidents in the US have not been what we were told by MSM. Young gay men tend to jump from bed to bed, guy to guy, and this places them in dangerous situation. And when drugs and / or alcohol they tend to let their guards down as many people do. And it can lead to deadly outcome. I have no hate for LBGT, to each their own. Please don't think everyone you meet is a good person.

Most of these “Activist” Organizations should have dissolved years ago, but the employees of these organizations want their paychecks, prestige and pensions. I don’t think many of them thought gay rights would happen as fast as they did. Always follow the INCENTIVES. $$$ and clout.

Back then we wouldn't have.
Believed that the media would lie to us but today we know better.❤

Some takeaways:
1) Humans beings are extremely complex. Matthew Sheppard did not deserve to die the way that he did but he’s essentially a patron saint of the Rainbow Community, along with Marsha P Johnson and Harvey Milk even though all three were complicated individuals.
2) It is extremely disheartening that both the hate crime murder of James Byrd Jr and the brutal rape of a woman three months after Sheppard’s death received less attention than the death of a pretty white guy with drug issues all for the sake of “narrative”.
3) LGBTQ youth need protection and especially guidance, but not from many of these “activist” groups who are just vultures at this point when it comes to social justice.

RIP to Matthew Sheppard and James Byrd, Jr.

Ask anyone who has partied in Denver in the 90s. Those tweekers would drive three or four hours to score, to party and there was tons of crossover between the straight rural and gay meth worlds.

Finally.. someone is saying this out loud. My husband was going to school at Laramie when this happened, he has a told me that this in no way was about him being gay. It’s was about drugs.

My late Mother worked with a relative of James Byrd Jr. I've met him a couple times when he'd visit their church (we were invited a few times and felt we had to go because she worked with her etc, she was a nice lady. Her husband was a preacher). I never spoke to him, as i was a child, but he loved his family. Rip to Byrd and Shepard

This is why all court cases should be streamed. Make it harder for fake narratives to spread.

So this story was one major factor that kept me in the closet. I was in fear and denied myself happiness until my late 20s because I might be killed like Shepard. So to have this story possibly false makes me angry. Not at hernandez but the activists who pushed it.

I first read Stephen”s book about ten years ago. So it still surprises me that people still think of Matt’s murder as a hate crime .

I had family living near Laramie. After this happened, they mentioned to us that there was more to the story than what was being told. I also remember the poor man who was killed with the truck that you mentioned, that particular crime made me sick and angry. 🔪🔪

I knew about this LIE three months after the trial finished. A man putted all the info in a web page. Just the facts, and public documents, and people interviews, and some umconfortable tv footage from that town. I GOT ANGRY! THIS WAS A WHOLE BOGUS. The most annoying thing was Shepard's family GOT FILTHY RICH MERCHANDASING HIS RELATIVE CRIME. Poor man he not only was murdered, had a drug issues, was into rough trade, and had personality disorders untreated, he was used for LGTBQI plus non profits organization to made millions. A whole stinky sewer scam.
