Something of this I agree and somethings I don't. You can get experience in agile and scrum by trying to implement some of that even in the most daskest of waterfall companies. Just do your best, talk to people and try to make a change even if there is 0 agile teams around. How does that count as experience, you might ask. Well, if you get that SM position in a company that is hiring their first SM, that's what you'll end up doing anyhow most of the times.

Also, read a lot of books, watch videos and try to connect with people. In many cases, what SM does is something that you can pick up quite easily from different sources and strong theory in some cases is better than weak experience. That's what I did - got my first SM position from open markets with practically zero experience of being SM in the previous companies.
