Salt

The salt in my body
The ocean inside of me
An intoxicating tide
A current of aching

And the sea grows heavy
Every pull is abyss-bound
I know that I must leave
I know that I can

In sub-skin chasms
Surges my longing
Uproots time
Erodes my dread

Far from the shore
I glimpse faint memories
I let the heavy sea take me
I sense the tremor of the deep

The ocean swells in me
Is the salt in my tears

And the sea grows heavy
Every pull is abyss-bound
I know that I must leave
I know that I can

Eivor, please keep on preserving your native language. The world will need it and i will keep on loving it. German greetings.

As a geophysicist and Norwegian that can certainly comprehend the lyrics when written - I wish to point out that the lyrics are damn near explaining "thermohaline circulation". Which is perhaps the most poetic pure-physic non-living global system we have on this planet.

I would need at least 45 minutes to explain just how beautiful it is. That sea-water is salty, that temperature varies a lot - that density of water is depending on both and thus drives our ocean currents at peak rates of billions of tons of water per second is moving - ensuring that nutrients and oxygen is "ventilated" on our blue planet is as beautiful as the fact that we humans need a bit of salt - but can not drink sea-water - but we can drink rainwater - being amazingly distilled like the finest cognac - making water drinkable for the fine people on the Faroe Islands that are surrounded by salt-water at a latitude where ocean-current heat-exchange makes their land beautifully green instead of being a permanent ice-cube.

The reason is that salt indeed makes water grow heavy. And the biggest waterfalls on the planet happens north of the Faroe Islands, in the Nordic Seas. Where all this salty and warm water from the tropics drops into the abyss with volumes that makes all the freshwater rivers on the planet combined look like a literal drop in the sea.

When you look at the "subsurface" ocean-rivers doing counter-current waterfall-thingies (that is a scientific term on youtube) between Shetland and Faroe Islands - yeah - Salt. And rain. And massive amounts of energy.

I'm Swedish, so I understand alot of the lyrics by reading it. Our pronounciation is different, but you can hear it's Scandinavian. Scandinavian languages are made for music.

surging through my body,
the ocean in me.
crashing waves of memory,
currents of longing.

the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i should go now,
i know that it’s time.

in canyons deep within my soul,
torrents of fury.
they carve away my fear,
but the hurt still echoes.

the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i should go now,
i know that it’s time.

out on the horizon,
a storm is brewing.
i let the breakers rush over me
and feel the ocean’s heart pounding.

surging through my body,
the ocean in me.

the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i can go now,
i know that it’s time.

the tide is turning.
the undertow takes ahold of me.
i know i should go now,
i know that it’s time.

i know i should go now.

I can't stop watching this music video. The concept is so amazingly simple but... it makes me feel like I'm watching a living ancient goddess sing her message. I just can't get enough.

Sounds futuristical and ancient at the same time. Maybe the salt is our ego and the ocean is the endless and timeless being?

I don't understand a word but here's the lyric

saltið í kroppinum
er havið í mær
ein drukkin tíðarflóð
ein sárur streymur

og sjógvurin tyngist
alt togar móti dýpinum
eg veit eg má fara
eg eg veit at eg kann

í undirhúðargjáum
fossar mín longsul
grópar upp tíðina
máar burtur óttan

og sjógvurin tyngist
alt togar móti dýpinum
eg veit eg má fara
eg veit at eg kann

langt burtur úr landi
hómi eg gráan av minnum
lati aldurnar taka meg
føli djúphavið darra
havið er í mær
er saltið í tárunum

og sjógvurin tyngist
alt togar móti dýpinum
eg veit eg má fara
eg veit at eg kann

My mind is torn between wanting to hang on to every word or sinking into them and losing myself.
