Model Y: $160 Spray Paint Job vs. $1000 Powder Coat

I've not both spray painted my 19" Gemini Model Y Wheels and currently have them powder coated. Which option is best?

I have 2 MY LR - Gemini n Induction wheels. Gemini wheels I sprayed plasti dip just in case I got tired of it and I can remove it go back to original sliver. I didn't touch my induction wheels. So for ppl wanted to choose btwn plasti dip or permanent paint, it's your choice. Great video indeed good to know...

I powder coated my 19" model 3 wheels for 150 per wheel. That included fixing curb rash and stripping the factory coating. Shop around next time so you don't get taken advantage of just for saying tesla. Another cheap route is using automotive paint and a clear coat on the wheels. It is just as permanent as powder coating and can be sanded and repaired easily should any damage occur. Enjoyed the content 👍

I would only consider professional powder coating, or I would leave it alone. I can’t imagine taking my brand new Model Y’s rims and spray painting them.

I would have ordered your Model Y with the sport wheel package and get a new 19 inch wheels for the range.
I do prefer powder coat for durability and looks but for 1K I have to bring home lunch for four months.

Paint adherence is also heavily influenced by sanding prep 400-600, the quality of the paint and a quality clear coat.

thanks for posting this. I was debating whether or not to order the larger wheels just because of the blacked out wheels on white looks so sick. Heard the bigger rim has less smooth ride as well. Glad to see that you powder coated the stock rim and it looks amazing. Powder coat def looks better. Thanks for sharing

I only have experience with plastidip. If done properly, or even somewhat close to properly, it looks great. There is a guy near me who supposedly does powder coating for $50/wheel. I have no experience with this 'peel coat' you speak of. Those cans of paint are $5.82 at wally world.. why did you have to pay $20 for a can?
