Nina Simone was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, and civil rights activist who lived from 1933 to 2003. She began her music career as a classical pianist but later turned to jazz, blues, and soul music. In addition to her music career, Simone was a prominent civil rights activist who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee.
