How to say “yes” and “no” in Chinese

Excited to find this! We have a person at work who is from China. She always smiles and gets excited when we say hello and thank you to her in her language; now I can say yes and no, too.

No : Bù Shì

I have a question. Sometimes when saying no, I hear Chinese people say something like mayo or mayoa. I’m sure that’s not the actual pronunciation but why is it different?
