Speaking of swarms amongst other things, did you happen to see the bees that delayed a professional televised tennis tournament on Thursday?

The swarm ended up landing on the camera that is suspended over the court!

This was in Southern California fwiw

28:29 I split a package in 3 one time (bought two extra queens).
I kept them in 3-frame nucs until they built up.
I got three hives out of it, and they overwintered... but no honey crop (wasn't expecting one anyway).

Hi Dave,
I have never had a successful split but am thinking about trying your first description of takin g1 deep off and putting on another bottom board. I checked this past weekend and my hives is good so far but I'm worried because I've had swarming in the past few years and honey production was nil. If I take a deep and put on bottom board, can I sit a honey super on top of it also? So don't worry about queen cups or finding the queen? In other words, I will have 2 hives and both will have 1 deep with 1 super (queen excluders, too)? right? Thanks!

Yep, Mom and dad just trusted the world and we just needed to be home when the lights came on unless we were told otherwise.

I saw this as an aftershow. You mention something about if it's okay to let a colony swarm so you have a new queen. In your response you say that you have the issue of having to deal with the queen they would make themselves vs one you bought. Last year, I had four different queens in trhee colonies. the only one that was any good was the one the bees made themselves. I'm not a fan of buying queens.

That is the bee logg books I use. Thanks how I know it snowed in May last year so weather can change anytime and don't jump the gun on splits ect. :)

I would love to learn more about raising queens

I had an unusual situation where I found one of my hives had 3-4 bees in it. I was cleaning it out and the queen came out and climbed onto the sugar block. So I have queen without a colony. I live in New England, the temps can drop to freezing at this time. What would you do?

How long do you wait to introduce a new Queen to the Queenless split after you make the split.

Would wrapping the new split help with the temperature control when done early?
