I switched from windows to linux a couple of months ago. I love linux so much, but i feel like there is just not enough stuff available for it. All of the seemingly normal & easy to do things in windows turn into multiple hour long troubleshooting runs scouring through config files, and the terminal. If wine would've worked with epic games store & the vst plugins i wanted, if my own ethernet driver worked, I'd still be using it. But im going back to windows for now. In the future i will most likely come back to linux, but for now I just want my programs to work. Its such a huge sacrifice to have to give so many things up just to use to linux.

At the end of the day, the best operating system is the one that adjust the most to the user's needs.

I switched to Linux and felt like it was fast. Soon, I’ve encountered issues but kept using it until I couldn’t take it anymore. I remove Linux and reinstalled Windows and was amazed how snappy it became. I realized, my laptop came with lots of bloatware and just needed to be reformatted again.

Linux is good but Windows is better for me.

Thank you. Unlike the TechLead's video regarding Linux (which I just finished watching and intellectually ripping apart), here you actually take a reasonable stance on this debacle. Operating systems are a means to an ends. I use Arch as a daily driver for my schoolwork and programming. I dual boot Arch with Windows because Windows supports muh gaming. And, that's completely fine. OS elitism is stupid, and so is arrogantly assuming that you have a better perception of the value of a user's time than the user themselves without even having the slightest clue what you're saying. (He said that you'd randomly lose data if you dual boot. That sent me to another planet). You do neither here and I appreciate an intelligent take related to the OS wars for once. Thank you.

Like many people have said, use whatever suits you best. I'm almost 69, I'm not a gamer, I don't use any higher end MS Office programs, and I can run Photoshop 7 on Linux. I dual boot with Windows 8.1 and use Windows about once a week, usually for ten minutes (I use Sony Vegas Pro for some video stuff). I can't take the Windows update crap and I just find Windows 8 and 10 kinda hard to get around. Been using Linux for about 20 years - the last 10 years that's where I spend 95% of my time. But, hey, it's all personal preference.

I tried switching to linux many times in the past 15 years, but I always went back to windows. Windows just works well, no problem whatsoever.

The actual reason Linux failed that they're not telling you is that it has a bad economic model. In Linux, everything is FOSS, but you can't charge money for something you give our for free. Thus, you can't pay professional programmers a paycheck to write good software. This issue trickles down into every other problem with Linux. Garbage software with UI issues, missing basic features in most popular DEs, inferior copycats to proprietary software, severe driver issues with nvidia/realtek, inferior display servers, and lack of any commercial support/warranties whatsoever.

Nobody will tell you this, mostly because people don't know/think about it but the few that recognize it are hiding it because of ego on their part. To a lot of Linux users using Linux is an ego/superiority complex, and to attack the problem would be to attack their personality.

I switched to Ubuntu a few weeks ago. I was enjoying learning a new operating system. I even installed a couple old titles like Minecraft and CS:GO.
But after I decided to buy GTA V, I realized the mistake I've made. Linux has recently lost support for this game because of a launcher patch, so even the workaround tutorials don't work anymore to get the game running. I am a gamer, and having to waste hours of my day to try and run a game in Linux, only to fail in the end, has me crawling back to Windows.
I'll still try out Linux again some time, but until Linux gets actual game support, I'm never using Linux for gaming.

Seriously, from manually installing .dll files to using the wrong version of Winetricks, to having to download a custom build of Proton, only to see it doesn't appear with all the other versions, to having outdated ppa's and Nvidia driver clashes

Amen brother, I'm doing the same thing tired of wrestling and fighting with my PC just to do simple things. The only distro that worked well all the time was Manjaro.

Wh-what ? I've never heard anyone say that you should only use Linux
And I've been in the Linux community for more than 3 years
Generally, even Linux fanboys will tell you to use Linux if you want and to try to replace the software that you use for free and open source ones, but that if you need to use Windows (for work, specific applications & games etc) it's okay and a lot of people that run Linux also runs Windows sometimes, and this is perfectly fine
But if anyone says that kind of thing, they are probably just trolls
3:56 Hold up, Windows 10 is better looking than Windows 9x / XP / Vista -> 7 / and 8/8.1 and more consistent?
For it looking better, okay, I can understand, it looks quite sleek, and everyone got it's personal tastes, but, more consistent?
No way.
Some applications have the new Windows 10 / Universal Windows App look, some look like Windows 8, other like Windows Vista/7, some from XP and there are even still icons and other things from the Windows 9x area, and a lot of times these looks are mixed together and it just makes me want to throw up
4:04 Yeah, it's quick and fast, compared to Windows back in the days... because hardware has evolved.
I tested extensively Windows 10 (and other OSes, just because I love tinkering with different operating systems) on multiple -real hardware- configurations and with different software configuration (with and without bloat removed, with and without custom apps installed and configured, with and without support for apps outside from the Microsoft Store etc), and it is consistently slower than the likes of Windows 7, most Linux distributions, OS X (but that's not fair, OS X is optimized for each macs etc), Haiku, BSDs etc, the only thing that I found that was quicker than for let's say older Windows versions is the boot, and that is thanks to fastboot, it kind of put your pc into a deep hibernation state, it's not really ever "off" like Windows 7 and others before and most other OSes, fastboot is great for the speed, tho it can cause some issues
5:50 yup, that's something big that will stay a problem for the Linux users and the Windows/Mac/etc users that would want to switch to Linux but can't because they can't play all their games, run all their professional apps etc, it is just more efficient and painless for them to just use Windows instead of dual booting or having to deal with virtual machines etc
The situation is improving, and really fast (especially for gaming), but it's not there yet, and will not be until, well, more people switch to Linux, make the market share go higher, and make companies make more software for Linux, but for people to switch, well, they need that software and that specific hardware support etc....
What some people do is that they have multiple computers, and they run Windows as their "main" OS because they have to, but install Linux on their other computers because they like it better in some ways, that makes the market share for Windows not growing that much and the Linux market share growing a little more (I don't know if that makes sense, and sorry for my bad English, I'm French, and it's almost 4AM here and I haven't slept for 2 days, so, huh, yeah, I might be a bit incomprehensible sometimes ^^), and they ask for those companies to make software work for Linux, and offer easier solution to developing, like distributing packages as snaps or flatpaks to make them universal and not have to go trough the @$$h0le of making their app working on every major Linux distribution one by one, and I think if more people do it, it m i g h t help a tiny bit, but I'm probably completely wrong
For all the video, other than those things, I have nothing to say, great video, great arguments, and I'm happy that you're on the operating system that makes you more comfortable and work better and more efficiently, keep up the great work, you've gained a subscriber!

A very nuanced opinion. As a recent adopter of Linux from Windows 10, I must agree with many of your points. Linux and its programs are still not up to par with Windows or MacOS. Because of that, I don't think I could recommend it to normal computer users unless they begged for help to switch. I must disagree, however, with your position on telemetry data. While it helps Microsoft build a better product, I think it ultimately should be a choice for users to decide whether they want to participate in such a program. One thing Linux does better is it allows users to have more control over their digital lives, and for that reason, I am currently satisfied with my recent switch to Linux.

Finally, someone with a really objective opinion about Software, Operating Systems and Distros... Excellent professional video.

I used Linux for a year for my University work and Gaming, it's come such a long way thanks to Proton and Steam Deck it's actually astounding. However it's not there yet and I had to reinstall Windows, I had it refuse to open a game or do something else for the last time and i really cba spending 4 hours in the terminal to fix it. I love Linux and will always have 1 Linux machine until I die but it most certainly is noty ready for the mainstream yet and I question if it ever will be at all.

Windows 10 seems to be better than a few years ago. And it is a whole lot easier to do a new install than Windows 7 ever was. On my PC it detects and finds every driver it needs all by itself while in Windows 7 you had to provide a driver cd or get all the drivers needed from the motherboard maker's website or from Dell, HP, etc. Sure people complain that Windows is bloated but old programs work just fine unlike the regressions in Linux.

I've been using Linux after switching from Windows 7. As a dev, it does everything I need it to do out of the box, and I have found Cinnamon to be stable.

I dumped Windows because of its data collection policy and I found 8 & 10 bloated. Yes you can deploy tools like "Shutup10" and see if you can find LTSC editions that are pretty good but why should you have to? I have a one machine with a dual boot but I rarely use 10 anymore. I have an old laptop too that runs like a Ferrari on Linux and like a half dead donkey on Windows 8 (which it came with). That said, if you want to use Windows its a choice like anything else.

Dual boot here - sometimes triple (Win, Lin & BSD).
