It is kind of shocking to see how quickly they've pissed away what took many decades to build for the sake of catering to a very small but very vocal contigent of activists.

Sorta like Sears closing. Not sad for the executives, more for the hard workers..not hard-wokers.

I worked at Paramount in 92-95 for studio execs when the MOB was just built and the UPN was launched. It was a magical place for a kid. I ran stuff to Zemeckis in Montecito during Gump. Clear and Present Danger was a blast, but then there was Congo, Indian in the Cupboard, Lassie and Eddie Murphy's team pulling me out of Scott Rudin's office after a tantrum on Nobody's Fool. That overweight guard was probably Tom, he was a teddybear, had great stories. I'd play basketball at Ubu arena with some of the Frasier cast, and the Freeman building held all the Trek design stuff, while most of TNG was filmed at Sony. I was on the lot during the Rodney King riots. Paramount will always be special to me, I still have the letterman jacket Leeza Gibbons bought me, with a pin for the Val Kilmer "Saint" film.

Star Trek Discovery sure was stunning and brave - stunning that someone could be so stupid as to greenlight something like that, and brave in the same way that lighting a match to see inside an oil tanker is brave. I guess she was trying to one up Kathy Kennedy in her Leroy Jenkins energy.

Chato talking about all these great shows is making me feel old.

Anyone remember RKO Pictures? Yeah, they were one of the greats of the thirties and forties. Now, even though they produced some really great movies, they are just a footnote in the history of cinema. It looks like Paramount will end up sharing that fate as well. Sad, really.

"It's dead, Jim". Nothing of value was lost. Paramount was dead for years

Speaking as a 25-year vet of what used to be the film/tv biz, this was in the works for a LONG time. Paramount TV produced close to nothing, except for the woke SW crap that was nothing like the stuff made in the past.

I can’t believe I still have the mugs from the studio as consolation for my work there…

… in fact, my last job was for ABC shot at Paramount Studios (“The Lies You Keep” or something like that) where I operated a prop subway car for the show. It was at THAT point where I got my mugs.

That show I was on was cancelled that season…

I do love these Hollywood insights. I'll always be grateful Paramount gave us DS9.

I never had the opportunity myself to visit the Paramount Studios. Thanks for taking us through the nostalgia Chato. For a moment, I felt like I was there too

Great!!!! Because they have gone down the DEI hell-hole and destroyed my beloved Star Trek. I watched it on NBC in the 1960s. I watched the serialized re-runs through the 1970s. All the movies. ST:TNG, Deep Space Nine, etc., etc., etc. They made it a DEI joke.

Love the daffy duck scream shirt.

For those who like movies before 1970, Paramount also put out Breakfast at Tiffany's, Cinderfella, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Hatari!, The Nutty Professor, The Sons of Katie Elder, Alfie, The Naked Prey, El Dorado, True Grit, Will Penny, Rosemary's Baby, Beau Geste, Jamaica Inn, All the Crosby/Hope 'road' movies, Sullivan's Travels, Holiday Inn, Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevarde, A Place in the Sun, Stalag 17, To Catch a Thief, The Ten Commandments, The Blob, and many, MANY more.

I too passed through those iconic gates on my way to a job interview in the '80s. It was as a production assistant ("go fer) and I didn't get it. At the time, I was crushed at not being able to fetch coffee for stars who couldn't walk 20 feet to the craft services table, but now it's just a pleasant memory. Thankfully, I left those dreams and L.A., and never looked back.

Does this mean that Nu Trek is dead as well? We can only hope!

When you mentioned huge transformers, I immediately wondered why Omega Supreme and Trypticon were hanging around 🤪

I will always remember one of the final scenes in "Blazing Saddles" where the entire cast and extras bust out of Paramount's entrance and Harvey Coreman hails a cab and says "Drive me off this picture!" Superb backdrop to end this dream, Chato, and don't call us, we'll call you!

My Grandfather worked in the art department at Paramount Studios for 30 years, during Hollywood’s golden years. Glad his not alive to see what’s happened to his beloved studio. The last program he worked on was Bonanza.

Love the shout out for Square Pegs. That was a great testimony to life in the 80's. Being set in a high school while I was in high school certainly helped.
