Today I learned that kombucha is fermented TEA of all things

I always put it in like a ginger ale category of flavors 😅

Everyone in the Balkans knows this, since they had atl one uncle that died from going into the basement where the wine was left slightly opened to be able to ferment properly, and they'd have no oxygen from the fermentation process and would suffocate

When my mom was a kid in the 1950’s her brother made root beer and bottled it himself. He got in trouble when one batch started exploding (the lids were popping off) because that doesn’t happen to root beer. But it does happen to beer beer.

Original root beer is 1% alcohol

Couple years ago I bought a bottle of kombucha out of curiosity. Had one sip and immediately hated it. Instead of doing the smart thing and throwing it away, I put it in the back of the cabinet thinking maybe I'd try it again another day.

Fast forward about a year later, I'm chilling in the living room with my partner, watching TV, when a BANG went off. We dropped to the floor thinking it was a gunshot. After confirming no one was hurt we looked around to see the cabinet oozing liquid. Turns out the kombucha was busy over the year and was ready for it's revenge.

Hey Doc, would you _please_ consider talking about different things that could cause us to leak CSF (cerebral spinal fluid) out of places like our nose? How it can happen by injuries, nasal drug use, birth defects & more? What are some symptoms? Are there others besides clear fluid when tilting head down? How it's often missed by sufferers, how it's eventually diagnosed & the different treatments etc.. I find this fasenating, thanks! ❤❤

I didn't heed the warning. I had a bottle explode and embedded glass in every wall and ceiling in thebroom it was in.

Anything can be an explosive if you mess up hard enough

Pickled tomatoes once as an experiment... Saw one of the bottles had gassed up a little bit more than I anticipated (hot day) decided to use it since it was done and I wanted a sample... Had to scrape it off the walls and get it out of my hair. Glad all I had was a bruise from the lid hitting me.

Fermented products which contain live and active microbes usually is using special purpose container. This container can reduce the build up pressure automatically.

Or, don't forget to loosen the lid before storage.

Or, don't use container made from glass. So when it blown up at least it gave you less injury. Just in case you forget to loosen up the lid.

Dont leave it sealed fully... The cold slows the fermentation but its not like soda, it will eventually turn to basically yeasty vinegar when it runs out of sugar to consume.
I used to make my own. Its actually pretty easy.

Co2 has somewhere to escape if you provide it with such a feat. If you clamp it down too tightly or bottle it up, yes it can explode. But with a little bit of know how, you will know that you can allow the co2 to escape while providing a safe environment for the bacteria to thrive in the environment that you created

I don't know if it's just imagination or not but sometimes when I open one, the glass bottle feels like it's shrinking in my hand.

Once I've made grape juice, it had couple weeks, and one day when I just get to the front door of my house i heard a huge BUM it was like a gun was discharged, I was terrified to open the door, after that I heard my family laughs, it was just the grape juice, 😂😂😂but I had to clean the whole room

This happened to me with a bottle of apple juice id left out of the fridge. One day i noticed it sounded like a soda when opened. Didnt pay it any mind for a few days and the next time i remembered it went to show it to someone and it made a loud boom when opened. Made me jump.
Smelled like cider.

This is a friendly reminder to use what you paid for before it decides you don’t need it for you

As somebody who's not from America, my first thought was that Kombucha was Sambucha's secret alien pet

So this is why my mom's kambucha jar is sealed with a rag and rope and not a lid.
