I've been researching the Lada Niva for quite some time and wish it would be imported here to the states! Unfortunately, due to the stern safety and emissions requirements, it won't be distributed here. But judging by its reviews and responses, the Niva is an excellent basic little 4X4.! Wish I could own one!

Is the Lada Niva have a interference or a non-interference engine design?

What I mean by that is, if the timing belt snaps while the car is running will the values be damaged and gets bent!

To me, the Lada/VAZ Niva the Russian version of the Jeep Wrangler, Land Rover Defender, and Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series

great car! An engine, 4 wheels, that's all you need to drive anywhere, even if there's no road :)) hard as a rock, but be carefull: it rusts very easily...
And it would be nice to have a turbo-diesel engine for the French market, to drop fuel consumption and to have more power to drive on fast roads.
But again, great car! Russia is still alive!!!
