In this iLearn video, Darryl shows a common strain gage half bridge - Poisson circuit configuration. (higher signal and/or temperature compensation)

DYK, you can double the bridge’s output to strain by making both strain gages active in a half-bridge circuit configuration.
Poisson bridge: half or full bridge in which strain gages are connected in adjacent arms to measure the principal strains in a uniaxial stress field.
Poisson's ratio: The absolute ratio of (a) the transverse to (b) the longitudinal normal strains in a strain field produced by a uniaxial stress along the longitudinal axis. The value is always between 0 and 0.5 for materials having isotropic mechanical properties.

Hello!
Could you please care to explain, why the perpenticular strain gauge "feels" a compression and not a tention force? thank you!
