BMW M3 by Redux: the £330,000 restomod E30 CSL that never was? | Top Gear

What we have here is an original BMW E30 M3, but one that’s been 'Enhanced and Evolved' by Redux. Yes, it’s a restomod, which means you can’t refer to it as a Redux M3, else BMW’s lawyers could descend on you. It is and remains a BMW E30 M3. But one that’s been fettled in the pursuit of perfection. Which has made it rather expensive. £330,000 kind of expensive. On top of the donor E30 M3 you’ll have handed over. Basically, this or a Ferrari SF90, then. Quite a lot to get your wallet around. Luckily, Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage is here to help.

Beautiful car. Loved the original E30 M3 and a restored carbon Fiber version would be a dream come true. Only thing that doesn’t look up to snuff are those seats. They look like they’re sofa recliners with a cheap loose fitting plastic cover on them.

330K pounds for a 4 cylinder BMW with some fancy details is absolutely insane to me

The blue-ish smoke billowing out the tailpipe can't be healthy

I had a 1991
E30 M3 up until 1995, I still say to this day it was the best car I ever owned.

what’s worse? those seats? the golf gti knob? that wheel? or the fact you have to have a donor car beforehand just for them to supply carbon ceramics & new electrics for 400k? that thing is an insult

Perfectionist, attention to detail?

Gauges not working and a lot of blue oil smoke from the exhaust. That engine is not healthy and if you used the 2.3L block as mentioned with the 2.5L 87mm crank, the cylinders will warp when bored to 95mm. Explaining the blue smoke under load. Clearly visible in many scenes. The S14B25 had a different block.

Getting 300 BHP out of a S14 takes extreme revs of at least 9000 and the corresponding valve train. This one is revving no more than 7500 by the sound of it.

Not impressed. To the degree of calling it a scam. How come the test driver detects none of this? Is this a review or a paid infomercial?

Great video, beautiful car, but that all-n price tag of around £400, 000 is insane. I know it's hand-built with carbon panels and a superb engine and chassis, but £400, 000? You could get a BMW M2 CS, a good condition E46 M3 CSL and an E30 M3 Sport Evolution with just 492 miles (currently for sale on Pistonheads) for less than the price of one of these. So... this or those three?

How BMW went from the E30 to the XM is one of the saddest stories ever told.

I am not against restomods and oem++, but herefor an E30 M3 was sacrified to end up as an expensive toy full of no-value redux logo’s, a 3-dot pattern that doesn’t have a meaning, a perfection that fails. In the long run, this will only show up as a heavily modified BMW … and probably, in some countries, forbidden to drive on public roads due to its modifications.

Would have preferred to see Harris' take on this.

The carfection version of this is by far better. Unbelievable how much better it is. Henry should be on Topgear he is by far the best motor journalist.

*I love restomods. Classic looks + modern tech is a delicious automotive recipe.*

My all time favorite M3, period. More old school than everything after it.

that price is an absolute joke, and they don't even supply the donor car 😂

So, in effect (as you need to supply an E30 M3 as a donor car) the actual price is more like £400, 000!!!

I hope they fix the smoking engine and dead rev counter in production versions.

Is that a blue smoke from the exhaust? For that price point unforgivable...

I'm glad this exists. The front end is a bit tepid. And for the price I think the "seat covers" could afford to have less waves in 'em. Upholstery by Cousin Bob? But overall, yeah!! Enjoy your ride Richies!!

everything about this is awesome except for the engine. I think for a build this detailed and comprehensive it would have made sense to put an s54 or some other inline 6. As built as that 4 cylinder is it can never beat the sound of an s54 screaming to 8k+ RPM.

One of the most beautiful cars ever built, it's a shame that the seats look like a pair of wrinkled b4lls
