47:50 - to imply Mexico's law education is inferior to the US because it's "just an undergraduate education" reeks of snobbery and ignorance. In the US, even as a pre-law major, you're required to take dozens of courses that have nothing to do with law for 4-5 years, and then go to law school for 2-3 years on top of that. In most countries, people who want to become lawyers enter university and study law and every little else for 4-5 years. It's not as if that automatically qualifies you to hang up a shingle either as most countries then require you to pass something like a bar exam. So yes, people in other countries spend far less money and waste far less time to become a lawyer. I'd say that's a better system.
BTW, in my experience, high school educations in Europe and most places in Latin America are roughly equivalent to the average US undergrad degree these days in terms of depth and breadth of knowledge acquired. No one in the US should be sneering at the quality of education in any other developed country.

This discussion reeks of a superiority complex among the interviewees, but it's hosted by the Woodrow Wilson Center, so it's not surprising.

Very good conversation, thank you guys! Gracias a todos que participaron en esta plactica.

My opinion is that this process of judicial reform in Mexico should be done slowly. It’s very delicate & will affect both countries for a very long time.

I don’t trust the Morena party, they’ve got too much power at the moment.
And for business interests, they are very far left & this might be an issue.
Since AMLO taking office, crime has been much higher than before. And inflation through the roof, partly due to his allowing of criminals to run free, extort businesses, etc.

Now the Morena party want to use AMLO in his last days to reform the justice system & secure absolute power for a decade, by removing all justices & installing judges that are sympathetic to the Morena party narrative/vision.
They want this before sheinbaum is president because AMLO is still trusted by many, but sheinbaum isn’t.
So it’s now/quickly or maybe never.
Remember that Morena is the party that has aided in mass immigration to the US, thus strengthening the cartels, mass drug trafficking to the US, that has resulted in a 38% rise in overdose deaths.
I’m wary of any political party that wants to make such an impactful change so quickly…

We need your help from USA and Canada. This new implementation will affect very much the USA´s inversions and it will turn our Mexico in another communist country.
