I'd add a tip to those who like to read e-books: when you feel the urge to buy something, acquire the free preview! 👑

One big tip i realized is that books are always going on sales, if the reason you’re buying it is that you eventually want to read it and its discounted realize that its not the last time it will be discounted.

I loved to see a video on BookTube that talks about buying less books. I related so hard with the fact to buy more books because I'm stressed about all the unread books I have on my TBR. And also with the tip to start slowly and not do it cold turkey. 👑

One thing I do is use my kindle for books that will likely only read once or not sure about and buy physical copies of books that I would want to keep forever.

Great tips! I like to think about how long it will be until I can actually read the book or if there are other books I already own I want to read more 👑

some great tips! I'm using Emma (from Drinking by my shelf)'s idea of "balancing the books" each month where my physical tbr has to at least stay the same, no matter how many new books I bring in!

Yeah, I have so many rules with spending. I have put myself on a ban, but I am letting myself get books that I either really want, as in books I can see myself picking up soon, and sequels to series that I am currently following. It is good having a limited number of books to buy a month, for me it is four because it really makes you think about what to get and makes you plan in advance. Like this month, I might pick up the next in the Wayward Children series.

👑 I was doing very well and then I found a new bookstore that had $5 dollars deals and lost my nerve recently from YA to Fantasy and you already know how this story ends... #accountability #mahalo #readmore #shoplater #greatvideo

I always say I'm not gonna buy anymore till I read more of what I have on my shelves and I always this year imma try to stick to the ration....read 6 I have and buy one....I wonder if I can actually stick to it - LOL. Love this video - makes me think about restrain....much-needed restrain - we shall see.

This is a very well timed video for me! (And I'm actually quite surprised that my rules for my own seem to line up with your tips!) (I started a ban a couple of weeks ago and did upload a video explaining my rules to keep me accountable 😂.)

I had to finally admit that owning books does not make me an intelligent, thoughtful reader. Piles and stacks of unread books (mostly classics, history, philosophy) just means I'm a compulsive shopper with an identity crisis. Now that I'm actually reading consistently, the desire to buy has dissipated. I'm often using my library card and kindle, which no one can see and impresses no one, but is far more satisfying. Having a written list of pre-buying questions is a super idea.

2022 is the year I read all 2022 releases I'm interested in IN that year. One reason being it is ridi culous to see these "all the books on my physical TBR" videos posted in Vlogmas and in January. If people really wanted to read those books, they would find time todo so. But it's not just that. Although they will read some of those books this year of course, if they make another video liekthatone year later, it'll have many of the EXACT same titles on it. But it gets worse, becausethat list will also be overloaded with 2022 books they didn't get to. And THEN they'll have to add 2023 books to it, and it goes on and on and on.

I find it interesting to go into a book blind, at least, that ws before publishers decided it was worth their time to okay books that have stuff I do not want to see, in the genres I have historically gravitated towards. Even this would not be an issue if those genres still were written the way they were before, but it seems like that beautiful flower has been tainted and decaying. But the biggest thing is, I have to actually ook at the synopsis now. So, surprises are out the window. Well, obviusly synopses don't tell you everything, but they sometimes do tell yout hat one thing that says "Do not buy this book, you are not the intended target audience."

I also learned not to trust Booktubers when they describe a book. To be fair the bieggest example of this is one that those Booktubers had not read yet. The Ones We're Meant to Find. The way they made it sound in videos, it was about sisters needing to find each other. That is not what it is AT ALL. Based on what the book actually is, I should not have picked it up for any reason. It is the second worst book I ever read. And not just for the misleading thing. It crosses a line. I would not trust ANTYHING that publisher puts out. Except I am not inthe habit of checking the publisher one very book I read, so I will probably still pick up things fromthem, howeverif I actively know that they published a sci fi novel, then I will avoid it for sure.

Other thing is so far only Kasie West and Morgan Matsen in YA contemproary romance that I've found as of yet avoid profanity, or maybe it was barely in the Morgan Matsen book I just read, but I will say the Emma Lord book I'm reading right now would be absolutely amazing, at least to the point I rea ched, if there were zero curse words. If I decide to keep it, I'll cross those words out. I will say I red a book by that author last month, that was also published last month, which cannot be saved by crossing outthe curse words. I twould be a little better, but it wouldstill be super frustrating. NOt terrible, just...not something that belogns on mys helves.

But also, I had a plan for March to read some boks published last September that were from some children author's who had mega hits inthe past, but now I thinkt hose are better for 2023. Sot he new plan for March is to read only 2022 books. Including myf irst V.E. Schwab. I have one of her books already but I dunno where it is on my bookshelves, and based on someother books she'swritten, I am not super eagertofind it, although it's got to be better than those others I heard about. However, Gallant's synopis asdescribed on Booktube sounds interesting. It's not science ficiton, so it's doubtful that there will be a robot in it who kills all of humanity, or fairies or whatever creatures are in that book in order to preserve itself when there is zero reasont o shut it down permanently int he first place anyway.

I also have gotten to eliminate some books from my Saved ForLater because sometimes a Booktuber will talk about a book and not go in depth, avoiding mentioning stuff that is NECESSARY for potential readers to know so they can decide whtehre to pick it up or not. Most recently, Ihad We Hutn the Flame in my SFL. But someone read the synopsis in a video, and then I knew it wasn't for me. No wonder, people who primarily only read adult romance, nto even the YA sort, were drawn to it. And I do not touch adult romance. I tried some, I was expecting like..romantic comedies. That's not what they are.

Actually, . even MORE recently thatn We Hutn the Flame, someone described Ember int he Ashes in ways that make it sound even less appealing tome than it had before. And I already figured it'd be one of the worst books I read htis month, after seeing what it says as the tagline on the front cover. BUT by then it ws too late, I had already bought it. Based on a Youtube comment that made it sound like it was abook that's not very well known. Then SUDDENLY everyone is talking about it. And I mean EVERYONE.

Almost made the mistake of buying Six Crimson Cranes too, but thankfully heard what it is about, and it's not for me. Should've know the author of Spint heDawn wouldn't biring out anything for me. That book has the same issue as We Hunt the Flame. This whole concept of girls needing to disgusse themslves as boys NEEDS TO DIE. Howhave authors not learned yetthat we live int he twenty-first century? It's one thing to have medival aspects in a fantasy, it's another to be presenting a misogynistic society. Antoher book popular on Booktube that does this, which I knew fro the get-go to avoid, is Iron Widow. At least people accurately described THAT as being something unappeling to me before I wasted money on it.

So from all these recent things happening, especially the ones from February TBR stuff and January wrap-ups, I am forced to look at synopsis, this whole "not knowing what this book is about" thing has to die. Of course, I'll still run into books I'm not pleased with, but at least it should be a little less likely, hopefully.
