Hello, and welcome to the Commander Sleeper Series!

In this video, Jake and Joel go over MTG's 17th expansion: Urza's Destiny. Packed with powerful cards like Academy Rector and Metalworker, this set is home to many multi-format cards! Treachery, Replenish and Yavimaya Hollow are great as well, in addition to the first printing of Thran Dynamo, an amazing EDH staple. But this video isn't about these amazing cards we have mentioned! This video will focus on the cards that aren't as expensive as the cards we have listed... the sleepers.

When Pioneer was announced, we knew that we needed to cover each Pioneer-legal set and sift through the bulk for cards with hidden potential. We had so much fun doing the Pioneer Sleeper Series, that we decided it would be a great project to attempt to cover Commander (EDH) from a similar perspective: What are cheap cards that have good commander playablity and value? In this series, we attempt to answer that question! What is the best commander card from each set, on a budget? What are the commander sleepers?

What is Commander:
Commander, officially recognized on June 17, 2011, originated from a format called EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander-- there can only be one). The first time we played EDH was around 2009. It is easily the best way to play Magic: The Gathering. The idea was to have a casual format with 100 cards and only a single copy of any one card, with a General: a singular Legendary Creature card in its own zone that can be cast any time, once you have the mana for it. If your general is removed, it goes up by a casting cost of 2 for each time it is removed. Once WOTC officially recognized the format and printed the first Commander product, your General was instead called your Commander and instead of the format being called EDH, it instead became recognized as Commander. If you ever hear anyone say EDH, they are talking about Commander. Make sure to know the cards that are banned in the format before building your deck (listed below).

Oh Lord! I hate storage matrix! My brother plays it in his Karn stacks deck. But other than that, great picks.

There were a few foil rectors going around 15/20 years ago because of maometto decks... I hope my old friends held them...

Compost is pretty good since chances are someone will be running black cards in the game. I mean sure occasionally it will be a dead card but when u happen to play against an aristocrats deck or a gy based deck this will draw u sooo many cards. And keep in mind that this triggers whenever black cards are put in a gy from anywhere which means that if there is a mill or discard deck on the table (could even be your deck) u will not have an issue with drawing cards again. this is similar with Reap btw. Another cool thing about it is that it does not hose black decks it just benefits u so it does not draw hate.

I use a pattern of rebirth in my Muldrotha deck not so that i can fetch a giant creature but to get one of the many creatures with etbs i have. And then cast it again and again and again :D

Storage Matrix sounds like a great addition for my Sisay budget superfriends deck. Thank you!
