What Is The Paradise Garage? (Larry Levan Way, 2014)

Paradise Garage may have closed in September of 1987, but the legacy it left behind spans generations. On May 11, 2014, a block party was held in front of the club's former home in SoHo. The street was spilling over as thousands paid their respects to the Garage and legendary DJ Larry Levan. During its ten years, the Garage defined what dance music has become today, and one man's musical style and taste provided the soundtrack to an era. See why millions of fans around the globe have a special place in their hearts for Larry Levan and the Paradise Garage.

I only went to the Paradise Garage twice, believe it or not those two adventures changed me, before visiting the garage I was deeply into hip hop, afterwards I left the garage with a love for house music, I was able to experience Gwen Guthrie sing "Ain't nothing going on but the rent " and Colonel Abrams " Trapped" sadly those two adventures were the only positive thing I got from hanging out with family. I watched the sunrise on the rooftop with a young lady that was attending Syracuse university, we smoked a joint and talked about our individual futures, just after sunrise my cousins found me with her, I can't remember her name but she had amazing light brown eyes, the cousins destroyed the vibe (rude to her) loud to me, I swore I would never go clubbing with those goons again, I said good bye and left. I love house music, (D.J. Larry Levan) introdced me to house music, the Paradise Garage has a special place in my memories and heart.

I am so happy and feel so blessed to be able to say I experienced the Paradise Garage in person. I remember getting my membership card in the mail. I walked the ramp and danced on the rooftop. Thank you Larry Levan. Your magic will live in hearts of your Garage family forever. I'm crying tears of joy as I type this. You had to be there to really understand why.

I am grateful to have been to the reunion block party with her and hear all the wonderful stories of the times she’s shared at the Garage. I remember the paradise garage like it was yesterday. The first time I went Grace Jones performed . I was hooked by the crowd & Larry levan . Walking up the ramp and feeling the music coming out of the walls and also one of the best sound systems ever put together. There will never be another club like this ever .
