Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off

My favorite bind-off for toe-up socks is Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off (JSSBO). It is easy to memorize, easy to do, stretchy, fast, and great for the tops of toe-up socks. Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind-Off works with 1x1 rib, 2x2 rib, or any combination of knits and purls.

The blog link above includes the free video and a step-by-step photo tutorial.

I remember this as so- a normal yarn over is wrapping the yarn round anti clockwise and a ‘wrong ‘ or ‘ backwards ‘yarn over is wrapping it round clockwise..
So glad you film it so we can see and your voice isnt grating like many others seem to be.

Finished off my brioche knitting with it using needles 3 sizes up, it fits very well and looks pretty indeed

I like your demonstration of this bind off because of how you explain that first backwards yarn over. It's my favorite bind off for toe up socks too. Thank you!

This is fantastic. Thank you. I've tried to master SO MANY different stretchy cast offs - tears have been shed over Italian tubular cast off and don'tget me started on anything involvinga needle! l inevitably give up in frustration. I've had to draw a picture of which way round the yarn overs should be cos apparently l do mine backwards but, this is such a quick easy method that l've mastered it first try.

Thank you! That was a very good demonstration - so helpful. I just finished my second pair of toe-up socks and wanted a stretchier bind off. My first pair ended up being too tight at the cuff.

I really like the idea of the stretchiness because even when I bind off in 1x1 ribbing with needles 2 to 3 sizes up from the needle used to knit ribbing, I end up with a fixed and non-stretchy bind-off which is annoying on sleeves. Only thing that my OCD is having issues with on the method you just demonstrated is that it appears to put a purl bump at the top of a knitted column. :/

Great video. I’ve done Jenny’s before ( I thought) but not like this. It was smooth to learn and went fairly quickly. Thank you!

Is there a stretchy cast-on too? My attempt worked fine for binding off and I love it. But, the bind-off edge fans out from the less stretchy cast-on edge. I would like to see them more parallel.
