This app is legit. I used to have an ol' BOSS SP505 sampler back in the day and loved it. This has all the power of that and some. Being able to import an mp3, chop it up on the pads and bash a tune is awesome and the samples that comes with the app are high quality. You can export your tracks to your favorite DAW too. I haven't tried it yet but being able to do it is nice.

@ChromeGuitar1 Thats a bit harsh - Garage band doesn't allow you to load your own samples and drums sounds, only what you are given. And frankly $5 or $20 - its not a great deal of money. Apple dont need your $, independent developers might....

i'm kinda new to the beatmaker. but DAMN this is worth its price. today my friend and i were jamming the subwoofer and bass sounds in his car with an auxiliary line hooking up the ipod to the player. QUALITY sounds on this man. BOOM.

Thanks for the step by step review. I bought this program a couple of days ago and am very happy with it except my fingers are to big and I need to purchase an Ipad in the near future. My main purpose of the purchase was to export sounds from the Xenon app (good app but limited to 5 tracks) to use in BM 2.

@therealKINDLE Lets not forget either that synths were also considered a FAD at one point. The famous 808 was rendered obsolete almost as soon as it came out and was considered "junk" by many only a few years after it was released... old technologies have a way of coming back around and finding new uses.

Thank you for the review! You do a great job of overviewing the product! It looks fantastic!

Just a few questions:

Is template saving possible? Can I make a "default project" that has all my tracks and effects set to the right values for a streamlined workflow?

Thanks again!

@aikighost It's supposed to, anyway. If you use with a dock that has MIDI out, it should be able to control a synth or drum machine that way, just like a hardware sequencer. It can also control specific apps on another iPad or iPhone via Bluetooth

@therealKINDLE Well sort of, except this is just a bit of software that costs 20bucks. I wouldnt suggest you would buy an iPad just to run it. The iPad will do a bunch of other stuff that a synth wont. A physical synth could cost you a couple $k easy based on the current prices. I dont think this is designed to take the place of your workstation, just give you some cool features on the go.

@mydreamquest ...He did clearly state in the video that "if you are already familiar with music production software, it would be intuitive...". That was who his introduction to the software is targeted for.

It took me a while to get used to garage band . But when I got this on my 4s, there was a small learning curve but I'm ok @ the editing, I'm learning how to put everything together. When I get a 64gb iPad, that'll be the shit

Would their be enough space on the screen??

Hao Tran I'm about to save your life lol I was also frustrated with the Beatmaker status bar in red in the background of every app but to remove it you have to press the home button on you iPhone and delete the Beatmaker app symbol from running. It will show in the recent list of apps you were using. I used to turn my phone off then on. Great question.

@therealKINDLE ...I agree with sonicstate. If you already have an iPad, $20 is a lot cheaper than a big Roland, Korg, Nord etc... Even cheaper than the Axioms etc for 4-500 bucks!

@FrikZz0r you have to set the latency to low for it to work on the iphone 4 on 4.0.1 from the setings of the iphone worked for me and that's what it tells you to do on the forums for beatmaker 2 also :) cheers. hope this helped

What do you think about the sound quality of the drum samples of this App?? I recently downloaded Akai´s Synthstation and overall I think the samples weren´t really good, but for a 2 dollars App that´s pretty much of what you can expect, actually it does like a lot of cool things, but I´m looking for something that can give decent good sounds.

@therealKINDLE man ive been a beatmaker for 10 years. This program is the truth. If you know how to make beats. this program has everything you need. Its the perfect on the go program for inspiration anywhere. An experienced beatmaker would totally ignore the sounds that come with it and use their own. I been using it a week and havent used a single sound that has come with it... this thing is the real deal. Worth every penny. 5 stars.
