This is Airdrop for Android

I think I might have found a decent Airdrop for Android equivalent. Not too long ago Google released an app for Android that was meant to help you organize the files on your phone, help you optimize storage, etc. but it happens to have a feature in it that lets you transfer files between two Android phones and it is remarkably similar to Airdrop.

It seems to me it even works in a similar way where it uses Bluetooth to find the other device, start the connection between them, but then actually uses Wifi to transfer the files between the phones much faster than a Bluetooth transfer would be. It isn't without hiccups though, but let me show you how to use it and we can talk about those then.

Those who say shareit and xender, it's an ad junkyard which needs unnecessary permissions and this "files" app is free of ads, uses less memory, less messy and eventually fast.

Good tip man! Shit like this is why I like your channel, especially during your "complete walkthrough" segments

The problem isn't because there are multiple ways to do file transfer, the problem is making it standard within Android api like apple did. People use various of apps and when sharing they just want it to work natural and not have to download or find the feature.

If anyone wants to know, Airdrop uses a hash to identify and connect to other devices using apple's own proprietary software. Android is available to so many manufacturers, meaning that it's not optimised the best for the hardware it is going to go on. Samsung devices may connect well to other Samsung devices. However, a Pixel device may connect slower to a OnePlus device.

I really don't miss air drop. I can send files over some IM service as well or work via a cloud service. Airdrop really seems like something that came out of the non-availability of a real file management option.. And because people are used to it, they now want it on Android as well.

This is the same as wifi-direct on Samsung

Appreciate this video a ton! I like using Samsung Flow between Samsung devices since I edit video off my Tab S4. This helps when I shoot other clips and photos from non Samsung devices to my Tab S4. 😄🙌🏽

With Samsung beam you just have to tap the phones one to another... far simpler and faster.

Not having iMessage seems to be a USA-only thing. Everyone else around the world uses WhatsApp & Telegram, so you're not really losing out when switching between the two OSes

The problem rises is that if the other person doesn't have the app or need to install it. The convenience of Beam is that it is built into the system already android device should have it and it is just a matter of turning it on. I have found it useful enough when sharing pictures right there.

I've been using this app since it came out and never knew it has this feature, thank you for finding this and posting!

Thanks for sharing this. I guess the only challenge is that both people have to have the Files app. I just wish this ability was native in the OS for all Android devices.

Idk about other androids, but Samsung also has a Send To Device feature when sharing something that allows it to send files and pictures to phones or other electronics and it works just like air drop

You people do realize that Airdrop is based on and is basically Wi-Fi Direct too, right?

You can easily send whole albums of pictures and other files via Wi-Fi direct on Samsungs and pretty much most Android phones. Seems like a hassle to download a special app for it.

It seems to be very slow in comparison to AirDrop though.

It's sounds like a good start for Android. there's potential to make it better with time.
