The secret is right there in their words. We saw Daenerys do it. A raging funeral pyre (fire) and three offerings of flesh (blood) hatched three dragons.
The Targaryen's probably burned criminals alive on Dragonstone and in the Pit to hatch them until the method was lost or forgotten thanks to the Dragonbane.

I think Nettles could maybe be a call back to how the shepherds originally tamed the dragons.

Nettles is a dragonseed, you don't need to have Valyrian features to be to Valyrian. We literally see this with Jon and other Targaryens as a result of a Dornish mother like with Rhaenys.

I wish the Dragons are shown to be a little different from each other like they have different subspecies in the upcoming house of the dragon. That would be awesome.

Targ's were among the smallest and least influence of the houses of Valyria, hence why they moved west; they became the biggest fish in a new pond.

I honestly don't think they needed spells to tame dragons as nettles shows us but instead those 40 families were the first to figure it out and stopped everyone else from even trying. Over the centuries they came up with dramatic stories to reinforce that fact as to make everyone believe that they couldn't tame dragons even if they tried and with them holding a monopoly on dragon eggs it's not that hard to enforce

Besides the three well-known dragons, Were there other dragons during Aegon's Conquest? What were they're names??

What kills me is that the other Valyrian House that came to Westeros with the Targaryens and Velaryans like Celtigar didn't try to finesse a Dragon egg had they just kept their heads down and kept one dragon they'd easily could've usurped everyone after the Dance of the Dragons

Here is my theory regarding “Game of Thrones” and “ House of the Dragon.”

Dragons were made with magic, through the God of Light, for the specific purpose of protecting the Seven Realms during the Long Winter and man from the Night King. But then, when the Targaryans used the Dragons for their own selfish reasons, to take control and hold the Iron Throne, the magic “stopped working” and the Dragons who would be of use during what would be the time known as “The Song of Ice and Fire, ” started to be killed during the Civil War known as “The Dance of Fire & Blood”. And shortly thereafter, the Dragons born later never made it to maturity, and therefore were useless in the fight against Man’s true enemy North of the Wall. Notice in both series, the only magic that ever works is that of the believers of the Lord of Light; we have Jon Snow’s resurrection, Beric Dondarrion’s muliple resurrections, the shadow demon that killed Renly Baratheon, the magic Arya is taught to become a Faceless Man and so forth. No one who believes in The Seven or The Old Gods uses magic that works.
So then, only when all the Dragons have died off, and a Targaryan who was born who was worthy of the Iron Throne, who could lead Man in a war against the Wights and the Night King, three dragons were born. The Iron Throne was never to be Danearys Targaryan’s, from the very beginning, Jon Snow was supposed to be king of the seven kingdoms and destroy the Night King and the Army of the Dead, or at least lead Man in doing so.

My theory is also why the Greens don’t win the Dance of Dragons. King Vicerys never tells the purpose of Targaryans sitting on the Iron Throne to Alicent of any of their sons: he only passes on that knowledge to his heir, Rhaenyra Targaryen. I think part of the reason the Dragons shrink and die off after the Dance with Dragons is because she doesn’t pass on that knowledge and mission to her heir.

I also think that is why the Targaryen’s and Valeryon’s first home was destroyed in the “Doom of Valyria.” Man forgot and stopped following their one true God, the Lord of Light, and started following “fake gods, ” and that angered the Lord of Light. He destroyed Valyria by fire from the volcanos that the Valyrian Freehold were built on and around. But before doing so, the Lord of Light came to Daenys Targaryen in a powerful prophetic dream, showing the destruction of Valyria by fire, which she passed to her father, Aenar, who then moved the entire family, who were still followers of the Lord of Light, to Dragonstone with their five Dragons. Daenys would then give birth to Aegon, whose father was also a son of Aenar, the first Targaryen born in Westeros, who is also the the grandfather of the grandfather to Aegon I Targaryen (Aegon the Conqueror), who along with his two dragon rider sister wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, would conquer and then unite the Seven Kingdoms, becoming the First King of Westeros. Aegon I fought to unite Westeros, because just like his grandfather’s grandmother saw the end of Valyria, Aegon I saw the end of the world of man through a prophetic dream, a dream which he called “A Song of Ice and Fire.”

What builds credibility to my theory about the Lord of Light and the Dragons being made to fight against the Army of the Dead during the Long Winter, is because we know the ending already! We know because of Daenys and the Doom of Valyria that Targaryen prophecies come true. We know that a Targaryen returns to Westeros with three dragons who are critical in their fight against the White Walkers. We also know that another Targaryen (named Aegon [Jon Snow]) and his “sister, ” Arya does the saving. And what happens when the war against the dead is over? The Targaryen who brought back dragons is immediately killed by another Targaryen because, she wants to use the remaining dragon for another purpose outside of what it was brought back by the Lord of Light for.

Lucifer Morningstar has theory on his Channel that the Valyrians were survivors of an even older and fallen Dragon riding empire in the East that was centered on Asshai and were the original dragon tamers as well as the civilization that fought the Others in Essos.

I like to think that the way to become bonded to a dragon was that like dany walked into the fire to rebirth them into the world they were born in a similar way one man showed he was willing to bond with his dragon by burning himself in flames but it's not just that he maybe had blood in him like how the north had the blood of the first men or maybe they were demigods cause we know their gods were different and there is some evidence to suggest god do exist in the world of ice and fire.

Segue : Imagine if the 'original strength' of Valyrian magic allowed higher freeholders and dragonlord families to not just tame one bonded dragon to them but also command all other dragons around them. I think I saw an indie animation that referenced this.

Blood magic, other spells, special cross species breeding, selective breeding, and traditional animal breaking methods I think is just about everything. Maybe early just one of those methods were used but over time a combination would be more effective. In my opinion.

Easy how they became dragonlords. They captured a charizard just without pokey balls. They used chains and tamed the charizard then also fed them rare candies.

It is so ironic that a person named "Shepherd" was responsible for the end of Dragons. When u realise that valyrians were originally shepherds who tamed Dragons.
