I usually chip with a wedge covered in mud and grass. It helps with my double bogeys

I usually chip with the club face open and it has helped with control immensely. But it is also very dependent on the lie.

that's why the 56 degree is the the most versatile wedge IMB.. b/c I can always add more loft and spin if needed.

To difficult for average golfer.
Results in more thin shots or stubs.

Open club face advice is very situational. If you're playing a shitty muni where the turf is tough, your club's bounce will cause you to blade the ball because open face raises the club's front edge. More chipping practice is what's ultimately going to fix anyone's chipping.

When I was learning golf, those shots were called pitches which travelled mostly in the air, which were different from chip shots, which landed mostly just onto the green and then rolled to the hole. Chips also had a much different swing than pitches.

I accidentally put my Mrs tracksuit bottoms on too but I immediately realised and took them off.

For recreational golfers I wouldn't recommend it. There are too many variables that most likely will lead to blading the ball. Play around with 7 iron down to Gap wedge. Play ball back of stance toward back foot toe or behind. Press club foward playing the ball closer to the hosel and just take a putting stroke. Play around with close face to neutral face. Too much of an open face with this technique will cause a hosel ball. It is an easier technique with very little movement. Do not let your wrist hinge at all. Keep your hands pressed forward the entire stroke.

The premise makes sense but when I do this I blade it 3 fareways over

Your pants are like my home town, “no ball-room” 💃🕺

The open face activated the bounce / effective bounce of the club. It takes the leading edge away from the ground reducing digging and allowing the golfer to trust the ground. It does also allow you to use more speed but the main reason is that it improves contact, especially on tight or poor lies.

Best chipping advice I've ever seen and it works so damn well and I've always been and actually a pretty good chipper but the advice from Tiger Woods when he was doing the chipping thing with Scheffler about up on tight lies chipping with the toe while having a little bit more of a vertical swing on my almost like a putter stroke is awesome highly suggest every person to practice this because you really start to get a really good sense and feel of how you can manipulate the ball significantly if you needed to while chipping off the toe of a wedge

Club selection is lie dependant, chipping of a tight lie with a lofted club and an open face increases the bounce which increases the risk of the shot being bladed .

That's not why we do it, but it is a plus. Opening the face a few degrees increases bounce angle, and if you couple that with a shallow angle of attack you pretty much eliminate the chance of fat shots around the green.

If I’m not mistaken speed is a function of distance and acceleration so you could get the same results if you tweak one or the other.

As a guy who was quite shit at golf improving my chipping by chocking up on my wedge and doing a bump and run rather than a high lofted shot has improved my game immensely I could see this being a great tip for high handicappers and looks great when it works out well but much higher chance of blading it 20 yds past the hole for me

True- open face when chipping does lead to better chipping.... yet practice is key. For instance, you really need to experiment with your weight in your stance. On tighter lies I have found its vital to place more weight forward which slightly keeps the leading edge down and hence avoiding those thin or skulled shots. Getting this feel is important when using an open face on tight lies. Happy practice and experimenting.
