ESG stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance

Sustainability stands for environmental, social, and economic aspects, sometimes referred to as People Profit and Planet.

Same, same but different? Yes, there is a difference.

ESG is usually used in the context of investing and finance and it is used to make the company’s performance measurable and comparable. There are comparative ESG ratings for example. Imagine that ESG is zooming in on specific aspects of a company's operations and activities and analysis these.

Sustainability is a broader concept that is about all aspects of an organization. Sustainability is like a wide-angle lens, taking in the entire landscape of an organization's operations and activities. It looks at the environmental, social, and economic aspects of the company and how they contribute to a more sustainable future.
