I just switch to spot metering for portraits. Get the spot where light and dark meets and keep the exposure on that. This will work too, so long as you don't poke an eye out with your lens.

I like the tip you gave here for DSLR users. But what happens when you've got a day where the clouds will be on and off and the amount of light changes rapidly?

get a mirrorless camera ..you can see your exposure then... sorry but Ive been shooting mirrorless for 2 years now & cant believe how its changed my workflow.. I shoot often with DSLR users & its painful to watch sometimes... love you guys but come on... if you go mirrorless get the best ..SONY... dont waste your money on what canon or nikon are offereing.. only Fuji & Sony have really mastered it, & thats because they are a years ahead of the game..
