I traded in my 2020 GX for the 2022 to get apple car play and the upgraded infotainment. Also, Mark Levinson sound was only available on the Luxury trim, but now an option on the premium trim. This vehicle is just perfect. Yes, mileage could be better, but that’s the trade off. I get 19.8 mpg overall with mostly highway miles. The barn door is cool. Not an issue. Third row is for kids in every car. Touch pad is fine too. It’s not over sensitive, imo. This thing is designed to run for decades without major repairs. That’s a BIG deal. The base off-road package is great for most uses.

If I ever find myself not living in the concrete jungle anymore, this is the truck I would get for the country/suburbs. I have *always* loved this freaking thing! Thank you for recognizing the value of build quality and longevity; most reviewers harp on 'this is old', 'that is old', blah blah blah... Old = Tried & True 🙂 Thanks for posting!

The sensitivity of the touch pad is adjustable. I like the pad. My arm and hand fall there more comfortably then holding it up to the touch screen.

This thing is a beauty. MPG is low, but I like to think we even out as a family with the Model Y my wife drives. 3rd row is electric on mine and it works well for kids. It's a really good feeling when you know that you can go cross country on your car at a moment's notice and not worry if it will make it there (as long as you have enough money for gas). To each it's own, I really like my GX.

It's easy to use the trackpad with your thumb while driving. You can also use the Menu button to quickly get to the main screen without having to touch the display.

As far as the third row, you want to access it from the other side instead of the driver's side. The seat slides further, allowing you to climb to the back with more room. If you opt for the Premium Plus or Luxury package, the power folding third row makes it easier to use the seats when needed.

We have the right seat in the third row up and the left one down so we can have more storage and an extra seat available for our child.

Just got our ‘23 this week and LOVE it. I had an Eddie Bauer Expedition for 12 years and used the (pretty good) third row ONCE. Think of the GX as having great storage with an emergency third row. If you really MUST HAVE that many passengers get a van.

I've had my 2013 for about a year, and absolutely love it.

The earlier iterations do have slightly better approach and departure angles.

At 160k miles, mine drives like a dream. I do currently have it torn apart for some repairs and maintenance (leaking radiator (very common), and chose to replace the water pump, belt tensioner, and idler pully while I'm in it).

If looking at an earlier 460, be sure to check for the intake valley coolant leak, cam tower oil leak, and timing cover oil leak. Mine looks to have recently developed the timing leak, but I can likely monitor it for years before it becomes an issue. When the time comes, it's going to be a costly repair (maybe a bit more than I'm comfortable DIY'ing).

My only real complaint is the lack of a transmission dipstick. Some dealers will try to claim the ATF is lifetime, even though the manual gives a service interval for it. Changing it (properly) is a huge pain, and could have been simplified with a damned dipstick.

Yup... they're reviewing the Lexus GX again. That means the new one is right around the corner.

I bought a my gx when we were living on Manhattan, i exclusively street parked and i had no problem with the rear swing door opening. To me it makes more sense its on the side of the driver.

Just bought my 2023 GX Luxury model and I LOVE it! I am coming off of a Toyota old school SUV and this is a huge step up in luxury and handling! The V8 is super smooth and this promises to be the last year of the old reliable V8. Gas mileage is the same as my old V6 Toyota. I could have waited for the 2024 GX, but this will have a different engine and transmission- so will it be as smooth? No one knows for sure. The new GX will probably be more expensive, have some levels of tweets to be fixed in succeeding years, and it will be back-ordered for USA delivery for about 6 months. I took the plunge to buy the 2023 GX Luxury and I have zero regrets and I will not envy the new 2024 GX either. I have reached a stage in life where I do not care about paying for premium gas and I want to ride in comfort in my 'forever' Lexus GX!

I have a 2017. Gas mileage is 15 city 20 highway at around 75. Premium required. Which going in you know this. 6 years of ownership and 75k miles, changed brakes and rotors around 40k miles and OEM Bridgestone to Michelin. Otherwise bulletproof. Few things I’d like changed would be a bigger tank. Range is around 300 miles. 3 blinks on turn signal when you tap it. Otherwise been very satisfied.

Last I checked, the off road package is only available with the premium model. I think that's 7-8k more plus the 1.5k off road package. I own a pearl white 2023 GX black line edition, installed full RCI skids (engine, transmission, transfer, fuel and diff), Full Amsoil MP undercoat, Ironman foam cell pro 2.5inch lift with Cooper Rugged Trek all terrain tires. I average 14mpg city and can get up to 20 mpg hwy, not bad. Off road and on road, this thing is incredible. Most importantly, this truck has so much character, and I plan to keep it a long long time.

I know it's not cool to say nice things about about still having a CD player but if I'm going to spend the money on a Mark Levinson system, I want one. Lexus knows I want a CD player because I'm their target market. I appreciate that. Good review.

A Toyota that has been in production for many years is hard to beat from a longevity standpoint. That's why the 4Runner sells so well. They go forever.

Great video as always. I am a GX 460 owner and I don't think the mpg is that bad at all. My brother has a Ford Explorer that gets pretty much the same mpg and it is trash compared to my GX. Also, I did a DIY third row seat removal and used a kit from GOOSE that replaced the floor where the seats were. I insulated it as well and it works great. I am so glad I did it because it is just the wife and I now that the kiddos have moved out, and the GX 460 is the perfect road trip vehicle.

You are funny but sometimes lazy. Access to the 3rd row in the GX is from the passenger side rear door, not driver side rear door. Try that sometimes. or read the owners manual.

Im excited to pick mine up today. Its been a long week. Everyone dislikes the touch pad. Maybe im super lazy, but i still use the touch pad. Im to lazy to reach forward to touch the screen 😂

I think we need a better definition for what defines a truck besides the frame because by that definition a crown victoria and several other things would be called "trucks."

The single biggest issue with buying a GX for off road is you just bought this nice lexus and now you need to take a Sawzall to the low hanging body work. It's for me, but emotionally, not for everybody.
