This man's deadpan integration of Ruby jokes is on another level.

I appreciate your videos Stef. They keep me sane and sober whenever I'm feeling overwhelmed.

Great advice. One thing I might add is that once you have landed that entry level job and start increasing your skill set be ready to jump ship from that company to another one in order to get pay increases that reflect your level of skill. Most companies that hire entry level people and this goes for other professions as well get used to paying their people a certain amount of money and are reluctant to increase the pay of people who are 'already' working for them. If they can get more out of you for less money that is a win win situation for them and they know it. You may also hear stories of one faithful employee staying with a company for 20 years who knows everything inside and out, and another employee who continues to leave the company and return that the employee who has left and returned more than once will often make more money than the one who never left. You would think that a company would be sensible and stay on top of good employees and keep the pay relevant. That's just not reality in most cases.
It's great if you're working for a firm that's sensitive to the current market and that feel compelled to advance your pay according to the market and your skill set, but don't expect that to be the case. It's rare.
Also, speak up for yourself at that company as you advance to get your reward as well as 'test' their attitude. If they drag their feet increasing your pay, move on. You'll find that the people who are most 'under rewarded' for their technical skills are the ones that have been at a company the longest.

Hearing this is so motivational. I'm a recent grad of a web development bootcamp, and I'm just finishing up filling in knowledge gaps with data structures and algorithms as well as some of the concepts that were glossed over in the bootcamp. I'm hoping in 2 months I'll be ready to start building projects again, put them on my portfolio, and start applying for entry level positions!

Hey great video Stefan. As a developer with 4 years of experience who has spent time with tutorials, they actually help if they are large projects that help you to understand concepts.

What this man says is pretty accurate. Remember, its one thing writing code on a blank slate without time pressure. Quite another writing code that has to integrate with a lot of other buggy stuff (which you have to understand), and do it under pressure. Coding for a living is a funny thing because coding attracts obsessive people, you have to be a bit obsessed to focus for 10 hours on a few lines of code that just won't work. But, perfectionism does not work in coding jobs, due to time pressure. Its common to have to ship something that half works (and fix it later), than not ship anything. So, the type of person who is good at the job, always suffers because they are always cutting corners to be pragmatic.

Thanks Stef really appreciate the videos they do help in correct thinking towards coding. I really like web development and wish and trying to find that opportunity to work while doing it. Very hard to find that junior dev job though. General jobs keep teaching you things the may not necessarily be transferable to other jobs or help in personal development . Coding on the other hand does. Am on this coding process thats difficult but I really like it and I won't stop while seeking that opportunity to learn while getting paid.

1. I love the money jingle at the beginning
2. I thought this video was going to be more about how to not be doing everything when you already do know how to code 😂 my biggest struggle right now is how to outsource work when you've already developed the skills to a pretty good degree. I'm wanting to build an agency / process to building apps quickly without me specifically doing the coding (which I can, and I do, but I'd like to get out of this spot at some point 😅 I'm not 100% sure how to approach it.)

basically don't deus ex machina that .. work learn implement sleep. work learn implement sleep. do that a lot be patient to really solidify the skills... then at some point you will be lethal. but don't be like just because you did two things you are okay. being smart is good for the day being consistent that's how you make an empire from your smartness.
