Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have had two UE Booms for around ten years and one unit has only just died. It never ceases to amaze me how everything these days is built with inherent obsolescence built in as a free bonus! Absolutely makes no sense to trash perfectly good speakers just because the built in battery fails.

Thanks for the video Jeff! I just did mine tonight and put a brand new Panasonic 18650 replacement. Incase this happens to anybody else I thought I would post this here. My fully charged 18650 sitting at 4.1 volts upset the BMS/safety board when I first soldered it on. This results in the board going into protection mode (+4.1v on all red black white wires with reference to battery negative). This means the unit won't turn on. But if you plugin the USB charge port it will reset the BMS and voltage readings will return to normal - unit turns on!

I honestly don't think I've ever watched a better walkthrough. Not too fast, descriptive and spot on. Thanks, man!

You can also by the battery that comes with the wire and cut the wire and wire them back together.

Hey Jeff: Thanks for this. I used it to fix my son's UE Boom, and it's working now.

At 7:45 you pulled out your battery by pulling on the wires. Mine ripped out the wires from the back of the circuit panel instead. Ugghh. Now what?

Well, they came out of a plug and there are three individual male pins. I had to search other vids on this and was able to see the color order to fit them back in. By using a REALLY thin needle-nose I was able to press them back in to the female sockets. The color order for future viewers who may encounter the same thing is: Black, White, Red (from the battery going outward).

I would add a harder caution to pulling on the wires as you showed. Pry it up with a sharp screwdriver into the battery

Secondly, the batteries I got from Amazon had no straps. So I removed the straps from the battery and resoldered them onto the ends of my new battery, leaving them intact where you disconnected them. It worked fine.

Just a heads up on these collateral problems. All in all I was able to work it out, but I almost had to scrap it.

Thank you! Jim

Great help to me... I have a pair and we are down in Brazil. No one knows anything about replacing the batteries on these cool speakers... Your video sure did help. Nice job on it, good camera and narrative work. I will be picking up a couple of eBay replacement batteries on my return stateside. And giving both of mine a needed battery upgrade soon. Again thank so much for your time and trouble on this issue. You saved me a lot of time and money.

Thank you so much for this video. I picked up a battery from the vape shop for $15, but did't come with those legs. I used the legs from the old battery with the board still attached. After reattaching, still got the critical battery notification but did the reset by holding Volume Down and Power, turned it on and success! 40% battery life! Going to leave it plugged in and hope it increases. It wouldn't charge more than 30% before it died completely.

Thanks a lot Jeff. I have a pair of UE Boom speakers. You're video is very instructive and I'm happy to see that it's not so difficult to replace the battery on them!
Perfect! And yes, the sound is very good for the size and the price!

for your time and effort to put this out there. Used packing tape to insulate the battery because its thin, does the job, battery went in easy on reinstall. Can't imagine how many of these speakers worldwide get tossed out for the sake of a battery replacement. Long live ingenuity. Tks large.

FYI - proper and ample lighting when doing a video is imperative. Otherwise, thanks for showing us how to replace the battery. We have (3) Booms and absolutely love them.

I saw a video recently that if it doesn't charge put in the refrigerator for a couple of hours. Then try charging it and the little light should begin to blink. It just worked for me!
