He actually has 3 poses once he's at low health if you don't super guard he'll go into a full guard pose where you can't damage him at all until you super guard

Specifically to get to fight Prince Mush, you need to have beaten the post-game Glitz Pit. While also have completed Jolene's help centre task. If you have done these 2 then after Chapter 4 you will be able to receive a message from Jolene about how you have helped her with her task. She will mention how Mush is getting ready to return to the pit. Wait a bit more then you will receive a message from Mush himself, inviting you to the fight. Once this happens you can choose him in the Glitz Pit as an exhibition match. You can also rematch him whenever you want if you defeat him!

Now, I’m unsure if I just got extremely unlucky or if you got extra lucky, but when I fought Prince Mush he nearly always targeted Mario no matter the position

The fact that superguard is the only way to enable damage him in phase two where he does 20 damage per hit is insane and really cool tho

I had to fill my inventory with life shrooms to get a chance....I had 20 going in and left with 10

A lot of details are missed here
First you have to complete Joleanes trouble at the troubles center
Then awhile after that she’ll email you about prince mush training
After that you have to wait awhile until Prince mush emails you and then you can fight him

You know something? Mario would be pretty easy to counter. Of course Mush thinks to dodge attacks. None of the other Mario enemies think to do it.
