The Trojan War is one of the oldest and most famous stories in history. Told by Homer in the Iliad and parts of the Odyssey, it recounts a ten-year siege of Troy by the Greeks. Complete with love affairs, revenge, a godly soap opera, grisly battles, demigod characters like Achilles and Ajax, and one of the most legendary war tricks of all time – the Trojan war is an epic tale that has been retold countless times since it was first written down around the 8th century BC. But did it really happen? And did Troy actually exist?

We’ve known for some time that the ancient city of Troy is probably in modern-day Turkey, on the western coast just north of Izmir, in a place called Hisarlik. But have archaeologists actually found evidence of a war? Maybe. It turns out that the story of Troy, and the story of how Troy was discovered, are two tales nearly as compelling as the Iliad itself.

Today on Crunch you will be exploring the history of this legendary city’s great war and how it was lost to time!

People underestimate how old and advanced society used to be. There have been many dark ages and resets of civilization and knowledge

The thing is that most of the dates the greeks came up for Troy with were pure guesswork which is what created the weird 500 year "dark age" where literally nothing happened (and they cant explain)
