This video is an introduction to ionic bonding, which is one type of chemical bonding. Ionic bonds hold together metal and nonmetal atoms. In ionic bonding, electrons are transferred from a metal atom to a nonmetal atom, creating ions. These ions have opposite charge, so they stick together.

If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't stand a chance in chemistry. You will probably never see this, but I do want to say thank you for all that you do. You really want to help students, and I am very grateful.

This man just informed me more in 7 minutes than 3 weeks of the same principal being taught by my chemistry teacher.

Hydrogen is an exception: although it is on the left side of the periodic table, it is a nonmetal.

I love how you assume we don’t know it and go to the basics I wish all chemistry teachers did that they think we understand all the terminology they’re using and know we can’t ask them in class as we’ll feel stupid

Hey Tyler, I usually don't leave comments on YouTube very often, but I just wanted to tell you that you do an amazing job teaching such dense material. You really have a natural ability in conveying complex topics in a simple, understandable, and entertaining way. You have completely changed my mind about my previous opinions of how difficult and complex chemistry and science is. Thank you very much for your hard work and sharing this with the world. You are definitely making a big impact on a lot of people's lives. keep up the awesome work!

I am a homeschooling mother with a standard chemistry textbook that I find challenging to comprehend. Your videos explain the main ideas in easy to understand and remember concepts and analogies. You are truly gifted. Thank you for sharing your gift with so many.

Thank you. This is extraordinary! In my 75 years on Earth (51 yrs as an electrical engineer), this is the best example of a tutorial I have ever seen. Every professor of chemistry or textbook writer should view this to learn how to teach.

Great question. Watch "Ionic Bonding Part 2" and then "Ionic Bonding Part 3, " and I'll explain all of that.

Even after 10years of uploading this, you're STILL helping so many students! I am currently in nursing school and preparing for MCAT. I love the way you teach with such a simple language with visual models. Great video as always!!

What a great example at how to teach. I remember being at school and switching off because I couldn't understand what was being taught as important details were left out and that left gaps in building understanding. These lessons are brilliant because they are clear and give the necessary details which makes it easier to grasp and that builds a desire to learn more. I know some who want to teach their children at home and I will definetely point them to these videos of Tyler's.

High school special educator here, who's also responsible for teaching the general curriculum to learners with some delays and challenges. I am clearly no expert, but you give me so much hope that I can modify chemistry for these babies to make it tangible, I appreciate your explanations! You're a teacher's teacher!

THANK YOU TYLER!!! I have a Chem quiz tomorrow and I have NO IDEA how ALL OF THIS IONIC BONDS work! And it's so depressing :(( I started crying the moment I checked my lectures because I don't get a single thing. So glad i found your channel! Almost laughed at myself when I realized it wasn't that complicated after all. You're a gifted teacher! Continue what you do! :)
