Just gonna leave my comment here. I've been trying to study Kotlin (as my first language) for over a month now.; and now, I finally decided to enter a bootcamp. The bootcamp will start on October 28. Wish me luck! I'll be back in 4 months to give you guys update :)

For those who know Java and Kotlin, there are more vacancies, interviews are easier, it’s easier to understand the source code, any advice on stackoverflow is understandable, such people understand Kotlin better. If you don’t learn Java, you lose all these advantages, but gain practically nothing, you’ll save a little time, but that’s not a fact, because... Knowing Java you can learn Kotlin very quickly
There is a lot of syntactic sugar in the Kotlin: delegates, coroutines, Jetpack compose, kotlin dsl - a lot of magic under the hood. Therefore, it is better to start with Java + OOP is easier to learn - the code that we see in Java is how it works. And Kotlin looks one at a time, and there are whole mechanisms under the hood.
Those who do not know Java cannot understand many things in Kotlin; for them it is simply magic and simple things can confuse them. If the question is whether it is worth learning or not - it is definitely worth it, and if the question is whether it is possible to do without it - yes, there are those who get a job and do not know Java. But then for them much more harder growing up as a developer.
