By setting your head unit volume to max volume, you are likely sending distortion from the head unit before it even hits the amp. You need to test where distortion starts at the head unit from what max volume level(once you find that volume level, never exceed it), then adjust gain at amp measuring again for distortion and clipping.

If you have your gain turned all the way down when you started, how do you turn it down some more to tobget the oscilloscope correct. That doesn't sound right

How do you turn the gain down if you have to start with it all the way down

Why was your bass knob set to half way and not max? was your sub level on the head unit set to max or 0?

This was done wrong. First of all, if you turn the lpf all the way down you are cutting off all frequency above the lowest setting, you need to turn it all the way up and and subsonic all the way down. Secondly it didn't matter anyway because headunit at max was most likely already clipping. With gain all the way down you turn headunit volume up until the wave squares, that is your max volume which on most units is around 3/4 volume. If anyone sets gains how this video instructed they are sure to clip.

Don't you want to keep the amps loaded while setting gains? Wont the load effect the clipping point? I see people doing it both ways, but under load seems like it could be a more accurate practice

On a factory head unit using a lc2i pro how do I find out what the max volume is on the head unit or better yet where do I hook up the oscilloscope to verify the max volume?

1:58 Am I missing something? At this point how do we turn down the gain when we were told to start with the gain all the way down? Regardless, thx 4 sharing.

Don’t turn your head unit all the way up unless you know it has a clean signal. You can use the oscilloscope the same way just hook up to the RCAs before the amp or off the speaker leads and do a 40 Hz 0 db and 1k 0 db. That way you know the signal is clean coming from the head unit and then do your amp after all that. That way you won’t crank it up all the way to distortion

Wrong you haven't tested your head unit in how far it can go before it starts to clip

Can you do a video and show us how you set up your oscilloscope unit exactly step-by-step so that we can go along with you and do the same thing I cannot get my sine wave bigger for some reason it’s very small and I’m getting frustrated. I’ve watched many videos. I cannot find where to set it up to adjust the amp gamegraph is way too small

the device has a 50vpk? will any more voltage from the amp fuck it up?

Thanks for doing the video I just need some clarity at one point he said attach the positive and negative oscilloscope connections to the amp then you said turn down the gains as well as the subsonic and low pass filter‘s all the way down to the left so they should be at zero or at minimum.. Then Advice was given to have the head unit on full the bass knob on full then check for clipping assuming every setup we Will have clipping then we just turn the gain on the amp mmclipping just turn the gain down… He said this point I have a question or I’m just not getting something because the gain is already down prior to this step so I am not able to turn the gain down because We were instructed to turn the gain down right at the start of the video. I’m sure I’ve just missed something but if you could provide some clarity around this is it a bit ambiguous. thank you very much

Btw your lpf should be open to the right

Thank you for the test tones!! Couldnt find a 40hz -5db

If you already turn the gain down, how you you still have to turn it down wen you see clipping. That clipping is coming from the headunit max volume

Does it even matter how many watts or rms ur subs are before adjusting. If the subs are not even hooked up then how do you know where to set the amp even with clean waves. That's where I'm confused

Exact same scope I use for mine. Awesome tool!

It’s a good video, but how do you set up the oscilloscope sign wave displayed to that size in the display so you can see it clipping?
I have the same unit and it’s so small. I can’t see or increase the height of the wave like you have did because I can’t see it. So how did you adjust it to that?

You need to put the scope to measure AC not DC. It's AC that is going out of the amplifier
