[Boots up game]
"Yeah, gonna blast through this first level before bed."
<ten seconds of confused screaming later>
[Closes game]
"...what the fuck..."

Perfect! Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking it was wrong!

Even on the original N64, I still use 1.2 Solitaire controls. Something about moving with the C-buttons and aiming with the analog stick just feels right to me on the original controller, even if the hands are swapped.

Thank you Alex! I noped out of the first level because my brain hurt using 1.2 solitaire without switching the analogs and triggers. Now I'm actually looking forward to multiplayer matches 👍👍👍

The main issue is what can't be changed like the overly sensitive L/R reticle aiming. Not to mention the RCP90s and Magnums don't shoot through the doors the same. They used to leave marks on a wall behind a door. Not anymore.

Yes!! This is the perfect configuration! I was playing it with the N64 controller and I was getting so dizzy but with the pro controller and this set up is the way to go.

This video is the proof that the modern gamer just doesn't know how to use an analog stick, this game's controls are one of the most precise I've ever experienced (alongside Super Mario 64 and other N64 titles), the way you play this game is by measuring how much of the analog stick you need to make the correct moves.

Nowadays people seems to use analog sticks as if it were a D-Pad, you just push 100% to a direction and release it, people forget about that basic concept of "move slightly to make the character walk, move slight more and the character will run", this part here in 3:20 it's very clear the guy playing doesn't know how to use an analog stick and kept aiming as if it were a D-Pad, just tapping instead of actually measuring how much you have to push (that's the reason why the cursor is not locked to the center, it's supposed to indicate clearly the range of how much you're pushing the analog stick, but people just throw the stupid excuse of "oh it aged badly lol developers didn't know how to do things yet").

It's not all the player's fault tho since nowadays analog stick have decreased heavy in precision quality and doesn't match the same way an original N64 controller does (not even the Switch version of the N64 controller is 100% accurate)

Good to know. I always use inverted controls but swapping sticks on Switch menu is a good idea.

I would highly recommend swapping ZL to L, ZR to ZL. I would also recommend you swap L to B and finally R to A!

I'm actually surprised at how well switching hands for the joy-cons works. Such a blast to play this game again in 2023!

I’ve been playing with the default controls. Got used to them during the first mission. I did play it a lot on the N64

That sounds like a good idea. I'll try it. Can't get my hands on N64 🎮 so this is what I needed.

Oh Alex. Thank you so much for doing this video. It is essential.
I've already done it thanks to people in Nintendo Life's wonderful comments section.

I didn't know this can be done. Cool, the ZR button is not working very well, so this is a good workaround. Thank you
