Thanks very much for the great review. I've just got my boat which has an older Humminbird with side imaging, but now I can't wait to get an Elite FS.
I have a generation 1 Evinrude Etec motor which is NMEA2000 ready. The Elite units have a beautiful built in "instrument display" that takes all the data from an NMEA2000 ready engine and displays it all on this "instrument panel". So not only do you get a great fishfinder/GPS but a fully fledged virtual instrument display for your engine. What more could a fisho ask for. Before I knew about this I was going to hook up laptop (running the EMM software) with a long data cable, and hope I never got a drop of salt water on it LOL.
I believe most modern engines are NMEA2000 compliant. All that's needed is to set up an easy and simple NMEA2000 network backbone (plenty Youtube videos) and plug everything in.
