n this tutorial series we will be breaking down an HTML and CSS template and integrating it into MODX. While MODX is a fantastic CMS and has pretty decent documentation, I always find actual humans walking me through things to be helpful while learning a new platform.

IN THIS FIRST LESSON WE COVER:
basic information
Installation
Basic manager tour
Simple implementation of content.
To be ready for this tutorial you should have basic knowledge of HTML and CSS as well as have a general knowledge of mySQL databases and how to create them.

Mentioned programs and or requirements:

MAMP Pro
Sequel Pro
Sublime Text (or another text editor)
MODX Revo installation
HTML template

Dude! Thank you so much for the video!
been using wordpress and joomla for a long time, and I must say that Modx is really what a CMS should be.

Somehow I think my comments from another site were posted on this one. Actually this tutorial is quite good. A little confused on when you got a template from somewhere and pasted all the content into your HomeTemplate. Where do you get these templates?

How did you get that nice editor as shown in the Modx Manager? I have the ACE plugin installed and my editor insists on white only with everything double spaced. It's very annoying.

These instructions worked perfectly right up until I logged in and I got an error message. Instead of going to the dashboard it said (the name I was using for the host was "testing"):
The testing page isn’t working

testing didn’t send any data.
ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE

and it won't let me go back a page or anything. I have tried it multiple times and always get the same results! Anyone know what's going on?

Great series Jesse. Maybe not the place to ask but any ideas why MODx (Revo latest) on MAMP (latest) is dead slow between refreshes (around a minute at login …'waiting for localhost'). There isn't much on the subject, but what is applicable to me I've tried. But to be honest, the majority of the suggested solutions involve tinkering with stuff not yet added and certainly way beyond the default setup stage. Just wondered if you have experienced such a thing. Or is this usual?
Anyway, thanks for the helpful vids.

Very nice series, thank you. However, I have a serious problem: you mention about the BaseTemplate only having a few lines of HTML code in it, well, I have an incredible amount of code there by default, including a few blocks of what looks like binary text, indicating images, and copying the HTML of the downloaded website does not seem to alter it or display the html5up website. Any further advice, please? Thank you. BTW, I use version 2.8.2
