Their marriage was surprisingly wholesome, although there were rumors that she was poisoned because of her presumed lack of fertility.

It is said she was her father's favourite child. He doted over her while her mother kinda rejected her at first. She also looked like Philippe the most. Liselotte loved her as her own.

No parties? No looking out the window? I definitely would not enjoy the Spanish Court!
Another great video, and I have to say I have never heard her story before....thank you again, my favorite professor.

Royal marriages were never wholesome, here it was an exception, they were happily married for a decade but had no heir and the queen died so young. It's really touching how he praised his wife's portrait when selecting new bride.

It is said that because the queen couldn't bear any child, the people often sang different rhymes:

*Parid, bella flor de lis
Que en ocasión tan extraña
Si parís, parís a España
Y si no parís, a París.*

Roughly translated to:
Give birth, pretty Fleur de lys.
That in such a strange ocassion
If you give birth, you give birth to Spain
If you don't give birth, back to Paris.

Would you perhaps consider doing a video on Charles II of Spain himself? I think that would be fascinating as well

Great video! I love some Spainish history!

This video seems to describe Charles II of Spain as far more functional and intelligent than most accepted historical testimonies. Most historians believe Charles to be impotent, not merely infertile. He drooled constantly because of the exaggerated jaw and enlarged tongue. He had the mental capacity of a child. That said, it's obvious that the account of his autopsy was grossly exaggerated.
