I speak differently in different situations. For example, if people don't swear and don't like it, I won't swear, with others casually. Mood also changes my tone automatically. It's not meant to be deceptive, its meant to fit the atmosphere.

Chase, thank you. I have watched maybe 8 hours of your videos. While texting, I noticed that my ex husband dropped his pronouns when explaining what he did about paying child support, which made me wonder if he was trying to be deceptive. I went back and looked through the transactions and his math, and realized that he was lying to get out of paying something. I then pointed out the evidence and stayed silent, and he ended up back tracking quickly, and correcting it. When we were married years ago, he was often abusive and unemployed, he drove us into debt, and he stole so much money from me and our son while I could do nothing to stop him. This was the first time that I felt like I stopped him from taking advantage of me and our son financially. Thank you so much.

❤ I noticed someone did this on text the other day and I think they were uncomfortable with the question that I had asked them and they had left out pronouns for when they were talking about me was very interesting because I remember you talking about this Chase

Thank you so much Chase. As an English as a foreign language teacher, I am more than curious about what happens in other languages. For example, in Croatian sentences can perfectly well function without pronouns in any situation. It is because our verbs have inflections which show the difference between, I and you atc

I notice I text like that, leaving out pronouns. I think it's me being lazy- short/to the point. I'm going to pay attention to if I do it when I speak. I think I also picked it up writing court reports regarding juvenile situations such as abuse-neglect.
Very interesting!

Is Chase aging backwards? He's looking good, and of course is interesting as always; so informative in such a small time frame! TY

The one challenge with this is that I grew up in Japan. Japanese often omits pronouns out of efficiency. But of course, Chase addressed this at the end with "if this isn't the way the person usually speaks"

I usually talk without pronouns when I have a conversation with the father of a new girlfriend. In German we have the formal "Sie", when addressing someone, and the informal "Du". Trying to become friendly without being rude.

I thought also removing pronouns had to do with distancing.

Conversely, ppl will use pronouns instead of ppls' names, in an attempt to distance themselves from the person.

For example, dad is being interviewed about missing daughter. Instead of saying, "Maddie woke up, then...." a guilty dad would say, "She woke up, then...."

🤔🤨 If someone is questioning me like that, I'll talk to them like that. Why do I need to say "I" when I'm talking about what I did? If I did something with someone else, obviously, I need to differentiate between what I did and what the other person did, therefore I would use the pronouns to make the story clear to the interrogator. You are putting guilt onto someone that could be totally innocent, because you don't know how they "normally" speak when interrogated. Lots of people aren't used to being interrogated.

What about people talking other languages, like mine (Romanian)? We don't use personal pronouns in our everyday conversations.

I will have to reread Pennebaker's book, The Secret Life of Pronouns.

But that is how we talk now because of texting. We leave out the pronouns, it's quicker.

This is how my ex would talk! And I would finally realize, OK what’s his story, now?!

Stephan Sterns original story sounded a lot like that. He’s now charged, awaiting trial, for First Degree Murder

The absence of pronouns means that they didn't actually say what they did.
