I ordered invisible thread once, but when I opened the box, it was empty.

I used to do the floating cigarette and that one effect got me so much work and reputation ! It’s good to use the ITR as a filler like making the silk float before you go into the TT routine !

To paraphrase a commercial from the 1970's, "They can put a man on the moon, they can send rockets to Mars! Why can't they make an IT that is a strong as sewing thread?!!!" I'll bet if there was a military application for IT, the gov't could develop an IT that could suspend the Brooklyn Bridge.

There is nothing special about alleged Kevlar ITRs. They break just as easily as common ITR reels. Standard ITRs are far more resilient. The so-called extra strength that Kevlar reels have is really not worth the extra price.

I purchased some pre tied "rings, " and enjoyed them but I burnt through them fairly fast just learning how it works and figitting with them.
The reel and spools are the way to go if this is your thing. It is fun!

One thing about Kevlar. It appears thicker than other ITs, but I heard once that it's invisibility in florescent light was excellent. I had an ITR with Kevlar, and tried it out at my office, which is lit completely with florescent light. The person I heard it from was right.

One of your very BEST reviews David. I wish I would have seen this before I bought my first IT reel . I'm now in the group that doesn't hate IT but definitely will stay in the bottom drawer.

Thanks for the great review David! I am new with using IT. I recently bought the Locking ITR by Sorcery Mfg. The thread keeps breaking. I don't know whether its Kevlar or Vectra. In one place on the DVD it says kevlar. On the large instruction sheet, it says vectra. So don't really know. I have been reading that Fearson's vectra is the strongest and best. What do you know? Should I invest in vectra original? This ITR is also difficult to lock and unlock under a jacket. Should I invest in the Venom? Any advice would be appreciated.

I completely agree. I have not found one magician who does not have a strong opinion on IT. I love it because it challenges me. I bought the Tarantula before having any experience with IT and it was a disaster. I bought a couple more spools of spider thread and had some more success with it after practicing with loose. I got Trickmaster’s The Ultimate Levitation System and practiced religiously. As for thread itself, I buy Gutermann Bulky Nylon and strip it. It’s cheap enough that you won’t feel guilty breaking or tangling thread (believe me, this will be the norm until you’re well-practiced). Loops are also great, but they can break easily. The tricks are amazing but never easy.

LOL Im a professional in the indifferent zone. I love the effects but, you can be amazing without it. I throw it on know if it breaks I'm not gonna bother to reset it till after a show. It can be a pain, as lighting is really important.

quick tips
Light moves in a straight line, make sure the line is parallel not perpendicular to it. Fabric patterns hide, solid colors can reveal it. If you are at a hotel banquet hall, that crappy weird carpet hides it. If you where a shirt with a pattern such as "gingham" while hide it extremely well (lighting almost doesn't matter). If you are outside and its overcast that is the perfect day for IT. Low light is not necessarily good light-- its light direction

Different threads are more/less reflective. Kevlar is super refective, wooly nylon not so much (its too bad no one makes this in thread boss version anymore) and loops of IET is extremely invisible.

I wish someone told me this stuff when I was learning.

I have a spider pen pro and a tarantula, I've used the tarantula twice in a real life performance and I've never used the spider pen pro in a real life performance, although the tricks look amazing ( like real magic) I feel there's too much that won't go my way ( especially with the spider pen pro) so I ended up using loops as my go to and always have one on me

I just bought a new reel because I'm coming back to magic and the one i had no longer works, and was pretty disappointed with the instructions that came with it came across your vid after a quick google search looking for instructions thanks for the book/ vid recs.

I've always stayed away from reels and thread. Might have to try that $15 dollar one and give it some practice.

Who's afraid of invisible thread ! I've got roughly more than twenty or so videos on levitation and several books as well, and you are spot on in my opinion of Johns work and tutelage with IT. I've bought several retraction systems, , loops ( which I do like very much) that break often or fly to never never land, but Johms instruction of how to make and how to use invisible thread is so straightforward, honest, informative, and without narcissistic over tones, that one would wonder if he had lived thirty five hundred years ago and invented magic or was good friends with DEEDEE who plucked a head off of a chicken. However, the reel allows us to back away. Then we return and the bill slides up( floats up) to our hand from an impossible distance. Also the Zombie ball may be of good use ? All of which is stage presentation, while most of us are attempting to fool our friends, playing for small tables, walking around a banquette hall, or table hopping, so the best real practical IT usage comes from John.

Nice video. For more then 20 years I use the same thing, and that's loops. I make my own and Keep them in my FPS wallet together with Extreme burn. Mainly do just 3 things with them: Floating bill, the thing with the sunglasses, and the trick with the card from the deck ( a variation). I could loan a few real systems and I hate them. Loop are great, set up is easy, if you start with invisible threat, starting with loops will be a good way to go, in my opinion.

I have both the large and small version of the ITR, I had great fun playing with them. The ideas/uses, though, are hard for me to come by. Also, I haven't used my ITR's for many years. I just looked at mine and they still work but the elastic is yellow and likely to break any time. I never managed to find a replacement elastic. Do you know where to get those? I haven't looked at any magic sites for many years.

Hello. I just discovered your channel when searching for invisible thread. I have a question. I am not a magician. I want to get kevlar invisible thread to hang a crystal star Christmas tree ornament from the ceiling down over the tip of my Christmas tree. It could be a really cool illusion. Would the kevlar invisible thread be able to hold up 1/4 pound? What do you think of this idea? Thanks.

I bought one of these and never got the paper.... do you think you could send me a picture of the manual?. The thread already came off the wax and i don't know how to take it apart

Really great video, IT is tricky to work with and your advice is excellent. Fearson's vectra is worth mentioning as it's the strongest I've come across. Love my spider pen pro, but totally agree with you that having a kevlar iboss as backup is necessary as these things fail more often than you'd like!
