Yo, you are one heck of a vlog tutor! Explained in simplicity and easy to understand conveyance and you actually demonstrate by appliance as you go. Well done, already liked and subscribed to your channel!

Hall effect is the phenomena of converting static magnetism to tiny bits of electricity. So current causes the magnetism which in turn is converted to millivolts (if the direction of current changes, so does the polarity of the generated voltage). So basically we are measuring current using voltage generated in an isolated and very safe manner. Arduino is not needed at all. You can measure this voltage using a digital multi-meter and effectively convert it to amps.

Great work Antony, you save my day!...

Could you demonstrate how using this sensor one could shut off power via a relay output to a small water pump when the amp draw drops as a result of the pump cavitating?

The ACS712 is a direct short across the power supply which will cause the supply to trip. Are you using a resistor or other or some other load? Maybe I missed something.

I have XL4015 Step Down Converter. I can adjust the voltage and measure it. But I don't know to measure the current.
I need to use XL4015 module with my GSM 900A mobile phone to make portable. I also just bought this ACS712.
Will this ACS712 module make it easier to adjust current to match GSM current requirement? It requires 5v and 5amp.

It would be great if you could explain if it can be used to measure any household appliances current consumption. Lab experiments might not be useful for a lot of people who wants to enter into DIY. Just a suggestion. Nice video though.

GREAT VIDEO This appears to be a tremindious opportunity in Solar pv applications. I need to monitor my GRID TIE SOLAR my utility will no provide netmetering to my home there is a state law saying I have to purchas my electricity from this utility so I am not composited for my excess generation by pv Solar panels. This sensor will let me switch loads, instead of my utility selling my excess generation to my neighbor. Great video!

Bought one of these and the output goes lower than the 2.5v idle when current is detected? (Mine does). Thought it would have added to the output -- guess not. Confirm anyone? edit -- you wouldn't think it but current direction matters so reversed and ok. guess it must be the "right hand rule" in effect ?

Thanks for the video. I'm having trouble with getting accurate readings with the sensor (ACS712 30A). I'm using a uno and my serial plotter outputs a certain negative amps and spikes up and down, then when I power it up there's no change. Please help. I'm trying to power up a switched reluctance motor. The motor works fine its just the sensor that's acting funny.

Thank you for your effort. Not a lot of views, yet. Just wait. Day after Christmas is my bet. These two will be classics and n Arduino land.

will it read current for signal having frequency higher than 50kHz?

is hall effect sensor can work for alternating current???

Thanks for the Video. Once small thing, you need to isolate your Mic as its got bad earth loop hence the hum when you touch it or the camera.

other than that - Thanks for the video.. an elegant solution chip!
