I think global capitalism with the emergence of generic McDonalds, Ikea, Starbucks and Walmart show not only a tendency towards : predictibility, efficiency and control but also a movement towards a lack of creativity ...which in my mind embodies a step toward dehumanisation and automation of the human spirit. The human becomes increasingly separated from a creative product.  The human becomes machine....the human loses all creative agency...through economic and political control the human spirit becomes generic. In many ways, political correctness, socialisation, economic pressures  and the media are important factors in producing a human machine devoid of individual creative agency. Films such as "Metropolis" depicted the worker as compliant generic machine . In many ways,  McDonalds represents these forces of oppression in addition to profit motive. Karl Marx highlighted these factors in his theory on alienation  fo the worker. These thoughts still hold relevance today.
