These two game friendlies, he fields half a squad of fringe players to give them game time then brings on the first squad players during the game so they can 'save' the game, with a draw this time.
Game two he will start with his full squad & they will win by 2 or 3.
He should have the full squad finalised by now & using these friendlies to gel the team & get some free kick & corner set plays going.

It was a tough game to watch at times. They really struggled. They looked indecisive and, at times, hapless against a highly motivated and effective Chinese team. Then, just when it looks like this “B” team is starting to look more like a Matildas team, we pull half of them off and put on the “A” team. It’s all about learnings. Learning #1 We really miss Sam Kerr.

Same old same old.... structural and tactical flaws from the Manager who has struggled to develop improvement in consistency and creativity with Matildas.... The top 6 Nations are moving further and further away from the way the Matildas standard of play. Despite some high quality players in the squad, who have captured the imagination of young girls commencing their football experience, women footballers and the greater Australian sporting community, we appear to be to slow and predictable. As for 52000+ crowd in Adelaide, awesome.

I think it's time to change the whole coaching staff. I don't see much progression once you bench the key players and we shouldn't be relying on those players only. Not very cohesive as a team. Thank god for a draw. It would be so embarrassing otherwise

despite what others say, i think vine did well. most of the time she received little to no support and had to take on 3-4 players, and i do reckon she maybe struggled with second guessing herself. but, she did better than most in the first half. also, i was fairly impressed by sharn. not sure why she didn't start because from the little time she has had, she performed good. so i would like to see her starting on monday so she can showcase her skills and potential (much rather sharn start than torpey, don't get the hype around her). clearly, this was not their best game, and they really need to work on getting more creative with tactics instead of doing the same thing when it shows not to be working. fingers crossed that monday's game is better.

China has a population of over 1.4 billion people, you would expect that to provide some talented players.Should not be under estimated some of their players play for top clubs world wide.

This was a horrible performance. The fact the players who started couldn't string a pass together should be alarming. We are relying on 35 year old Heyman. Gustavsson needs to answer for his tedious tactics and inability to bring players through.

Absolute joke the complete lack of tactics from the coaching staff in the first half with constant passing sideways between the defense and goalkeeper. Here is a tip from a Matildas fan guess what you can’t score goals or win a match if you dont cross the halfway line for the first 25 minutes. Get rid of this coach please as this is a great team being destroyed by an amateur.
