It’s been a while since we made a long-form video, and we’re excited to bring you one of our most requested topics. This video is an extended version of one of our viral shorts, and we’ve made sure to do it justice by diving deeper into research, stats, and high-quality information. In this video, we explore the 4 safest countries in the event of World War 3. And, this was a thought-provoking experiment, and the countries listed are based on our research and perspective. It’s completely okay if you have a different opinion.

We’d love to hear your thoughts! Let us know in the comments which countries you think would be the safest and why. We’re looking forward to engaging with you in the discussion and might even respond a few of your opinions or questions.

Iceland might be a pretty strategic point in the case of an US vs Russia nuclear war actually. This is the case because since the earth is round the shortest path for ICBMs fired between Russia and the States could really only be intercepted over the actual countries, Iceland, or Greenland. So both the US and Russia would probably really want control over Iceland for surveillance/interception.
I'd probably go with New Zealand as well because I'd get scared of food shortages in Fiji and nuclear fallout in Switzerland.

If World War 3 were to break out, especially with nuclear weapons, the consequences would be apocalyptic. No nation would come out completely unscathed, but some might stand a better chance of survival based on geography, self-reliance, or neutrality. Countries like New Zealand, Australia, and Switzerland are often considered to have a better shot at survival. They’re far from the main conflict zones, rich in natural resources, and have built strong defenses or neutral foreign policies.

However, even these countries would face overwhelming challenges. A nuclear exchange could trigger a nuclear winter, where massive amounts of soot and debris block sunlight, plunging global temperatures, and collapsing agriculture. Widespread famine and food shortages would follow, meaning even the best-prepared countries would struggle to sustain their populations. Nations reliant on global trade for essentials like oil or chemicals, even if untouched by direct conflict, would face severe shortages and disruptions.

For the survivors, life would be nightmarish. Radiation exposure could lead to long-term health problems like cancer, genetic mutations, and infertility. The environment would be heavily contaminated, making basic necessities like clean water and food difficult to find. Social and political order would collapse, giving way to chaos as people fight for scarce resources. The trauma of witnessing mass destruction, losing loved ones, and living in constant fear would take an immense psychological toll.

Technologically advanced societies might regress to more primitive ways of living. Advanced technology, complex industries, and global infrastructure would be shattered, and rebuilding civilization would take centuries if it’s even possible. Small, isolated communities might emerge, relying on basic trade and agriculture, while much of the knowledge and progress humanity has made could be lost.

In summary, while some isolated nations might survive, the human race would face a bleak and challenging future. Life after World War 3 would be defined by survival, scarcity, and a long, painful road to recovery. It wouldn’t be just about the survival of nations but of civilization itself.

Therefore nothing to be happy about even if you survive.

I think an honorable mention would be Chile 🇨🇱, It's the southernmost country in the world, far from any conflictive country and also "Isolated" from the rest of south america for the Andes at the east and the Atacama desert in the north.
Chile is also the most developed country in the region with the highest HDI with a Lot of natural resources, in fact, it's one of the biggest exporters of copper, lithium, wine, salmon, etc..., the country is also Pioneer at renewable energies with the biggest thermosolar power plant in the world (Called "Cerro dominador") and developing projects on green hydrogen and e-fuels.
Definitely a good choice to keep away from any WWIII 😅

Tragic-comically, the most important factor is not mentioned in this video: susceptibility to the effects of a nuclear war.

As a New Zealander I feel like our biggest weakness if there was a WWIII would be our neighbour ; Australia.

I feel like the faroe islands deserve a mention here, we are isolated and could be self reliable with food
Only thing is we have no military, so idk how far that would drag us down

New Zealand is the best option out of the 4. It's the biggest, has good climate and plenty of food.the other however face a lot of problems. Iceland is quite expensive and small. Fiji is by far the smallest on this list and so doesn't have much land. Switzerland might be the lest favourable option as it is bordered by France, Germany, Italy and Austria and near Poland. Also it is the most expensive so you wouldn't be able to live there for too long.

Of the 4, I personally think Fiji would be the safest. My reasoning:

Switzerland: The video is probably right, it would generally be a safe country to be at during a WW3. However I'd say that there's still a slight risk factor for fleeing to Switzerland for safety. There could be a miscalculation on either side, resulting in a total misfire. Especially with modern day technology these days, some of these long range ballistic missiles have to be precisely located. Given the fact that Switzerland lies in the heart of Europe, it's chances being attacked by Western powers or Russia from miscalculation is very possible. Don't forget about the nuclear warheads. Yeah...

Iceland: I feel like this is probably one of the more inaccurate countries that are safe on this list. Iceland is part of NATO, despite the country not having a military whatsoever. Not only that, Iceland could be a strategic point as it sits in the middle of North America and Europe, both continents of which strongly oppose Russia. The US and Canada could use Greenland as a strategic point if Russia somehow gains control of the Atlantic Ocean. If Russia gains control of the Atlantic Ocean, Russia would probably capture Iceland to counter US and Canadian troops operating in Greenland. I'm sure we can all agree that the control over the Atlantic ocean is important for Russia to stop trade between the US and its allies in Europe and the Middle East. And since the US, Canada, Greenland, and Iceland are all a part of NATO along with many European powers, Iceland essentially chose which side it's on before the war even started.

New Zealand: This country is mostly safe however... New Zealand has bad relations with China and North Korea. New Zealand is a close ally of the US and its allies. Additionally, during WW2, the US countered Imperialist Japan by working with its allies (including Australia) to recapture islands controlled by Imperialist Japan, starting from near the continent of Oceania all the way up to the South China Sea. If the threat from China significantly rises, China probably would look back at history, and although the odds of China invading New Zealand is relatively low, it's still possible to the slightest extent, especially due to New Zealands close ties with the West. However I gotta agree with you on this one, New Zealand would probably be relatively safe during a WW3.

However I agree with just about everything you've said about Fiji. The headlines always cover about NATO, Europe, and sometimes even New Zealand. But hardly does it cover Fiji, and if it does, chances are it doesn't even cover geopolitical topics when it comes to Fiji.

In Switzerland, the practice of blowing up roads, bridges and tunnels has been removed because it is considered unnecessary.
