The Expanse - 508 - Hard Vacuum

In this episode we finally get to see the full extent of Naomi's predicament and how she's going to survive it, or at least let the outside world know about it. It's painful, difficult, and maybe doesn't even work, but she's doing what she can. We also get a glimpse of what Pastor's new adminstration is going to look like, Claire's positive influence on team Amos, and Karal's corrosive influence on Drummer's family.

Apparently the markings were to count how much air she was losing every time she opens the airlock and how many attempts she would have. She calculates this when she looks at the information about the air capacity available. This is according to what Ty said in the aftershow.

They're Belters, of course they stripped everything from the Chetzemoka, it's in their very nature that nothing goes to waste, their survival in the belt depends on that ethos. Why leave anything that could be deemed valuable when the ship is to be destroyed. And more so now that trade etc. has been disrupted with the attacks on Earth. We see Drummer and her crew do the same with the wreck they're scavenging.

She knows the Bobbie and Alex are coming for her so it makes sense that she is disrupting the outgoing message for them to hopefully hear. You really are over thinking it. I think the bombs are equipped with an anti-tampering part of the bomb because they came that way off the Martian ships, also all the wires are all the same colour, makes it harder to diffuse.

Suborbital means that the spacecraft doesn't reach orbital velocity, so it is a spacecraft flying below orbital speed and it can't complete a full orbit of a celestial body. It can fly from one celestial body to the next though.

Actually the whole reason Naomi is in pain is from being burned by direct sunlight as she is going through space. In the scene where she is floating you can see one side of her face being burned to a crisp, along with he hands.

Naomi has very limited time, tools, oxygen, and strength/stamina (perhaps even dying). Impossible to disarm everything and fly away in the ship. Just wants to prevent her family from getting blown up. Hash marks are for calculating the air usage/loss i think. Remember she checked the airlock volume placard before starting.

I think they stripped the ship to salvage any useful bits. I also wonder if Marcos had intended to put Naomi on there at some point - maybe incapacitated in some way - so she can watch Holden come near, and not be able to do anything about it when the proximity alert triggers the explosion. He wouldn’t resist twisting the knife that extra bit. He couldn’t anticipate it happening this way... but I don’t know that he’d be mad about it.

57mins you discuss Naomi removing the floor grate. The ship is under thrust gravity. She is Locked out so can't reduce the thrust. Hence why she had to improvise.

What I loved most about the book this season is based on is how well it showed life for the belters, and how everyone in a war thinks they are the good guys. It I absolutely true what Avasarala says about the effect of killing civilians in these strikes. Just look at the Middle East right now. The US is still stuck with its foot in the Middle East tar baby, especially after the attack on the world trade centre, and every time they bombed a building to kill a Taliban leader, they turned 100 more orphans into US hating rebels for the cause.
