What you aren’t told can happen when your gallbladder is removed! You can experience very unpleasant side effects. You’ll eventually have what’s called a bile deficiency. Bile is like a detergent for fat. It helps break down food, especially fats. If you don’t have enough bile, your digestion of fats and essential fatty acids is incomplete, especially omega-3 fatty acids which are important for your nerves, brain, eyes, and heart. As well, you can’t properly digest fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K.

Without a gallbladder to concentrate bile, it simply trickles into your intestine. Here's what can happen as a result: you’re at risk for fatty liver disease, diarrhea, constipation, anal leakage, and bloating.

Your liver normally makes 350mg of bile daily. Without your gallbladder, you’re missing the organ where the bile is concentrated before being released into your intestine.

Certain fats require bile for complete digestion, and others don’t. MCT oil, butter, and palm oil don’t need bile because they bypass the gallbladder and go straight to the intestine, making them easier to digest. Avocado oil, olive oil, nuts, and nut oils, and saturated fats all need bile to be fully digested. If you consume only these, you may have problems with digestion.

Be sure you consume omega-3 fatty acids. They have something called DHA and EPA that are important for your health. Cod liver oil is an excellent source. You may also want to take a bile salt supplement.

Now you can see why you may need to take some extra action to help your body out after your gallbladder is removed.

Over 20 years ago, a doctor wanted to remove mine. Without running any tests. He wanted to remove it, because I said I wasn't sleeping well. I realized he was up to no good by intuition. I still have my gallbladder today. No regrets.

Sorry, but had my gall bladder taken out over twenty years ago. Best decision after suffering horrible pain and discomfort for years. Up to now, no problems thankfully.

I’ve known this “innately” for over 25 years - just based on the symptoms u sited - since having my gall bladder removed in 1995. You are the first doctor, in all these years, to acknowledge the truth. No offense to u personally, but my experience has convinced me that doctors are just politicians with scalpels. I keep my distance now.

I had my gall bladder removed 20 years ago & was so relieved, as the pain I was suffering in the end was the worst pain I’ve ever experienced. I haven’t had any issues, but I did change my diet. Thank you for the info.

Twelve years ago I was told my gall bladder was diseased and needed to be removed. I immediately said no. Was told the gall bladder never heals when it is at that point. A bit over a year later, new tests showed my gall bladder was okay. I had changed my diet, and also changed the facility that had tested me because the doctor often does what the lab tells him to do ... and it is my firm belief that some of the interpreting doctors at the labs easymode everything. So, when getting a ''second opinion'' on surgeries, do make sure that includes a second lab. I don't know if in my case that that was the real difference, or the dietary changes, but the moral of the story is: don't be too hasty, take some time to look around and talk to others, and let your body heal itself.

My sister had her gallbladder removed, her doctor said she'd be fine without it and never told her about any side effects. She is now in poor health, with such bloating and digestive issues that she looks like she's carrying triplets (she's now 58!). I'm sharing this important info with her. Thank you.

It would have been really nice to know about this 20 years ago when I was 7 months pregnant with my third son. Never had any problems until one night I was in excruciating pain. Went to ER, started throwing up bile an was told I needed emergency gall bladder removal. Said it it was common in woman with multiple pregnancies and I “didn’t need it”. No one ever said, hey you should take bile salts now or you may feel XYZ symptoms. Only just leaned this from Dr Berg. Since doing Keto I go to the restroom like a normal person, I don’t burp in public, awkward, and I don’t feel bloated after a meal. Thanks Dr Berg! Oh and p.s. I’ve lost 20 lbs! 😁

I am glad I had my gallbladder removed about 25 years ago. The pain from the constant gallbladder attacks that I was having, was just excruciating.

Dr Berg you are a treasure. Seventeen years ago my very sick gallbladder caused an abscess on my pancreas which led to a domino of terrible effects. Forty-five days in the hospital after surviving from encephalopathy and gallbladder excision I went home to recover. But now I have all those problems with my liver and digestive system. But no one has given me any actionable information on what I can do to help my liver. But every year the list of medications grows longer. Thank you so very much for the information packed videos you make and for the additional information you provide so we can follow up and go deeper. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you. Had my gall bladder out in ‘94. They told me I could eat anything now. Boy were they wrong. Wish I never had it taken out. Thanks Dr Berg for telling us how to deal with it!!!

I had my gallbladder removed a few years ago and have really packed on the pounds since then. It should be mandatory to tell patients the effects of not having a gallbladder 🙄 but I am meeting with a nutritionist in a week to go over a new diet so hopefully that helps

I love that you make all these short vids for people to explain different things about our bodies. This was a good one... they are all very informative and I learn a lot from them.

"They" aren't going to tell you anything they didn't study or isn't going to make "them" a profit! It's up to each to take control of their health!
