The Battle of Gura: Egyptian Invasion of Ethiopia – 1875 – 1876

The idea of a Nile Valley empire is persistent in Egyptian politics, and Isma'il Pascha is finally ready to give it a shot. In order for the empire to rise, he must conquer the Ethiopians, whose homeland contains the beginning of the Blue Nile at Lake Tana. He thinks Ethiopia is a primitive Empire and an easy pushover. He is in for a treat, as the Ethiopian Empire, recently reunified under Emperor Yohannes IV, possesses a formidable military armed with competent firepower. Emperor Yohannes is more than ready to repel invasion. The first major battle of the invasion occurs at Gondet, and is a stunning Ethiopian success. Isma’il is infuriated. He decides to send in a second, significantly larger army. Ethiopians from across the country unite under Yohannes’s banner this time. This will be quite the battle.

Ethiopians defeated every foreign invasion attempt. They tried to pick a fight with Ethiopia and could not win . Ethiopians are true warriors that fight to the death and have deep love for their country.

Just found your channel recently but I'm enjoying all your videos so far! Well researched with readily available sources to back it up; I also like the fact that you're covering lesser known(but still significant) topics/events, truly _hidden history_ .

I noticed some confusion you expressed in the comment section regarding the Ethiopian flag; honestly it's a political spat more than anything else. If I've understood the situation correctly, I personally see no wrong in you using the flag *of the literal era being described* (but for the sake of being more 'fair'/inclusive, it's probably best to stick to the _plain_ tricolor going forward). Judging by your interactions with your audience, you come off as a humble guy and receptive to criticism/feedback. Wish you goodluck with your channel, subscribed!

S/o to hidden history, an account I just found, for informing us about history. I'm bout to link this channel to all my friends and family.

To all the people in the comments arguing about ethnic politics, please try to put it aside for a second and at least appreciate our common history. We all know that we might fight a lot but when an outsider attacks, we come together.

Tell them man! This is the real black African, Ethiopians success story but for years they intentionally hid this big story to the whole world .Truth should come to light .
And i must say that you know your history verywell here and it appears that you thoroughly study your readings .
