Same as everything else, the country is a corpse, sadly. Had so much to be successful - rich and ancient slavic history and culture, Soviet-inherited industry and infrastructure (granted, not perfect, but better than nothing), plenty of natural resources. Could be so great but for the long-ingrained tendency for swagger - Europe's/world's bread basket and all that. No other country in the world has a blatant self-praise elevated to a national salute, not to mention a very sinister historical origin of it. Now about 1/4th of the country is in ruins, unverifiable number of the young men dead, millions displaced and no chance in hell to ever repay the sovereign debt. I guess someone thought it was a worthy price to pay to join the NATO. Odd that...
