This week I react to some of the funniest Alaska memes as an Alaskan. For those of you moving to AK or thinking about it, here is a view of the lighter side of living in Alaska!

The Alaska state flower is the Forget-Me-Not! Methinks you might not originally be from AK, which is fine, but a realtor that doesn't even know the state flower makes me sad. Please forgive my need to correct, but here are a few more comments from a person raised in AK: long time residents are used to the short summer and long winter seasons, it's normal and if it affected us like energy for 3 months in summer vs. no energy for 9 months, nothing would get done, it IS snow machine, the Palmer and Wasilla "cold war" isn't about being spread out or village-like, it's like a class war. I went to both Palmer and Wasilla high schools, and they absolutely hate each other. Stereotypically, "Palmerites" tend to have higher socioeconomic backgrounds, and pride themselves as having higher grade averages, keep their letter jackets clean, a bit preppy, the Molly Ringwalds of the Breakfast Club and the best basketball team. "Wasillians" are on the other side of the tracks, if you will, generally lower income, higher crime, skip school a lot, spray paint swear words on their letter jackets, more punk, the Ally Sheedy of Breakfast club, and have the best basketball team (with the most fouls). Photographing...I'd say adults photograph their kids cleaning and packing their parents' fish and game, so all win here. No clue about the snowmobile with bread. Otherwise, great fun stuff!

My husband is trying to do rental properties here in Maryland so when we do move to Alaska (and we will) he says it would be easier when we have mailbox income. We've only visited Kenai (and say many of my Hawaiian brethren) but I'm more curious to see how Wasilla and Fairbanks are. I just want a few acres of property, a lake or river, and a great view of the mountains. Cooper Landing would be my ideal spot.
