The Full Story of Half Life - Before You Play Half Life Alyx (Part 1)

From its revolutionary first game, to its legendary sequel, to the way Episode Two left things off on a massive cliffhanger, to the torturous wait for a resolution to that cliffhanger that has endured ever since, Half-Life is a series that has left a major impact on millions of people in more ways than one. And, impossibly enough, just days from now, we'll finally be getting our hands on the next full-fledged Half-Life game, when Half-Life: Alyx launches as a VR-exclusive title on PC on March 23.

Given how much of a focus narrative and storytelling have been for Half-Life as a series throughout its life, this is the perfect time to look back and refresh our memories on all that has happened across its multiple entries so far. And here, that is exactly what we'll be doing, starting with Half-Life and ending at the notorious Half-Life 2: Episode Two cliffhanger.

Edit: After that, it's actually a really well done and well-researched video. Unlike most of these "Half Life Story So Far" videos -- which are just random "youtubers" who know nothing about Half Life and are just trying to get clicks off the release of Alyx by reading wiki articles into a mic -- this guy is pretty obviously a fan of the series. The video is worth a watch.

There's an alternate timeline where Cave Johnson buys Black Mesa, names it Blaperture Mesa, and shuts down the research that led to the events of Half-life. Pretty weird.

Even stranger is *how* Cave Johnson knew how stupid and dangerous that research was.

It is still so unclear to me why gman gave them the sample that caused the resonance cascade... effectively signaling the combine to invade earth? Yet, he supports / hires Gordon to fight the combine? Gman seems like a 4th wall plot piece, who’s sole purpose is to create the story... his motives are otherwise contradictory...
